So random, April '25

We start on April Fool's Day, with...what a surprise, a Cabbage Patch Kid.  Please ignore the mess behind him...and the poopy lighting too, for that matter.

Y'all think Nathan Hunter is just a smidge outta season in that?  Luckily for him I had something new in the mail.

Later on that evening Alexandra Claire did get something new in the mail, and she made a beeline for the grass.

The ground was still damp from the Sunday before (it was Tuesday by then), but that neither bothered nor affected Alexandra.  Later on that same evening I took this picture of Alexandra sitting pretty.

This image shows the color of the dress a little better.  It's an apple green shade.

April 2nd.  The calm after the storm.

It was still thundering a bit during the eight o'clock hour, but nothing like it had been.  Candela Laura and Rita Cheryl were both sick to death of storms and ready to hit the sack by then, and I'm not sure what Mia was thinking.  Thunder and lightning don't faze her much, though.

April 4th, we were surrounded by more tornadic thunderstorms, but the day's chosen dolls' cares were nigh next to zero.

This is another of my candids.  I'd just put Nathan Hunter in his new romper, and he flopped onto Mia like he'd known her all his life.  Mia, being a good-natured little doll, didn't mind a bit.

April 6th, the rain finally moved out and chilly temperatures moved in.  So typical of weather in the Midwest, fickle as sin.  A conversation with my mama led to this picture of Danica and Lark.

Pardon Danica's unbrushed hair and Lark's derpy eye.  Lark has developed a bit of eye derp in the time that I've owned her, and that may may land her in a pair of glasses.  Anyway, I ran into a very cute Create Your Own doll on Failbook, one with bobbed hair like Danica's.  I showed her to Mama, and of course she fell in love.  "You could get one like that with blue hair," she suggested, remembering that at one time I wanted to dye my own hair blue.  "I could," I replied, "but those CYOs are two hundred bucks, and I've got a girl with blue hair."  That, of course, is Lark.

I then noticed that the Failbook doll's owner called the bob "underrated."  In turn, I remembered that Danica has a bob, so I brushed her hair and showed her off.

Danica was once owned by a child and is thus a little rough around the edges, but she's everything I'd have chosen in a Create Your Own so I'm happy.  For the price they wanted (ninety bucks plus shipping) I was happy to overlook her shaggy hair and the ding on her nose.  Oh, and regarding the bob, I'm not the only one who likes it.  Miss Emily's CYO doll Eliza also had bobbed hair.  RED bobbed hair, just like Danica's!

While I was fussing with Lark and Danica, Candela Laura had her hands full with So Surprised Suzie.

Having heard a loud rumble outside, Suzie was convinced that we were in for another thunderstorm.  Candela had to reassure her that it was some idiot with a noisy car, not thunder.  It took some talking, but Suzie eventually calmed down and agreed to stand still for a picture.

She'd heard that she'd be getting a new dress next pay period, as Mama and I had both seen little outfits on Etsy that we liked.  Suzie ended up not getting a dress per se, but she did get something cute to wear.

April 8th, eclipse anniversary!  It was finally dry enuff to take my dolls outside, if only for a minute.

Gwenda Cecile is wearing yet another gift from Mama.  I like to joke that the best Cabbie dresses come from Texarkana, because several of the outfits Mama has given me are from there.  The ladybug dress is no exception.

That evening I also got a picture of Mia and Little Mia together.

I said this earlier in the month but I'll say it again:  my pocketbook may be in serious trouble.  These dolls are just too cute.

April 10th.  Matthew Tommie got a new T-shirt that happens to match Justin Latowski's.

Coincidence.  I bought Justin's shirt two years ago, and Mama bought Matt's shirt last week.  I had no idea it was gonna be yellow and white, but it suits Matt just fine.

April 11th.  Caught this one as I was getting ready for work.  From left, Booful Beans, Chou Chou, and Xue.  Hedda Get Bedda, Nathan Hunter, Esmond Brant, and Cara Raelean can all be seen in the background.

Chou Chou and Xue were NOT havin' it that morning, but then Chou Chou's never havin' it.  She tolerates Booful though, since being mean to Booful is like being mean to a puppy.  Chou Chou is a Monst doll, by the way, and Xue is an Amooooore Doll.  Yep, Amooooore, five o's.  Both Chou and Xue will be getting reviews sometime in the summer.

April 13th.  Random head shot of Hugo Jack.

I'd asked my friends on Failbook:  if their bald Cabbies had hair, what color would it be?  I've always envisioned Hugo as a brunette, and strangely enuff several of my friends said the same.  I think my buddy from Newfoundland and Labrador said her baldie would have red hair.

April 14th.  Another one of those "I threw them together and this is how it came out" pictures.

Idalia Gale and Beryl June got a bit too rambunctious for Suzie that evening!  They were excited because they'd heard another popcorn girl was joining the Cabbage Patch.

April 17th.  Beryl June met the subjects of a future blog post.

Those are Little Cousins, and I'd never heard of them until a week ago.  They'll be getting a review, but I don't know when.

April 19th.  Storms were once again in the forecast, though the weather in the Bootheel was calm (Texas and Oklahoma were another story).  I got another candid of So Surprised Suzie.

Suzie likes baby dolls that are smaller than her, and Sasha Baby is precisely that.

April 20th.  Gary Collier got something bright and new to wear.

Y'all wouldn't know he was my OlympiKid, would y'all!  A change of clothes really makes a difference.

April 21st.  Sasha Baby and Nancy cuddle.

Both dolls are European, and they look cute together as well.  Some of my dolls are a little freaked out by Nancy's makeup, but Sasha Baby doesn't give a flying burrito.

April 22nd.  A warm, clear day, drastically different from the beginning of the month.

Rebecca Madeleine models the dress that I got in the haul a few days before.  It looks cute on her, but I can't wait to see how it looks on my friend's doll.  Orange always looks good on dolls of color, which my friend's doll is.  This is another dress from Texarkana, by the way.

April 24th.  Two of my foreign babies get to know each other.

The Cabbie is none other than Candela Laura, and she's got Sasha Baby on her lap.  These two were at the center of a goofy question that I asked myself and a couple'a friends, one that will be revealed on the blog in a few days.

April 27th.  Random shot of Silver Bird, and Mini Maryellen photobombing.

Silver Bird had just received a new outfit, as had Gabby (barely visible to Silver Bird's left).  I had lost the ability to walk unassisted by this point, and thus both Gabby and Silver Bird were parked next to me on the couch.

That's all I've got for y'all this month.  Mobility issues bite.

So random, December '24

December 1st.  I'd just learned that Twyla Boogeyman's eyes glow in the dark, and I was planning on doing a post on that.  It fell through, but I still have the picture I took.

I don't talk much about Twyla, but she's always been one of my favorite Monster High characters due to her smaller size and her coloration.  Unfortunately my Twyla is falling victim to time just like Lagoona Blue has, and her hair looks pretty nasty.  I'm hoping I can save it.

December 2nd.  Bae Day Monday was for Jesmars.  I only have the one, Candela Laura, still in her fall dress.  Here she'd offered to help me shake out the winter quilts so that the family can avoid another spider bite (that lovely saga is here and here).

The ninth and the sixteenth are for Lily Ledy and Tsukuda, respectively.  I don't have any of those, but I'm looking forward to seeing the other folks' dolls.  The quilts got a clean bill of health, by the way; I guess the only spider in the pile was the one that bit me.

December 3rd.  Autumn Leah (right) finally arrived in the mail (she was listed as "out for delivery" for a solid twenty-nine hours).  Here she leans on Gwenda Cecile; my friends on Failbook wanted to see them both.

Y'all have met Autumn Leah, but I never talked about Gwenda Cecile, even though the two arrived around the same time.  Gwenda Cecile is a poseable Kid from the Hasbro era, with thick, pale blonde braids and bright blue eyes.  She has a head mold that reminds me of the crazy-expensive Coleco #19 head, which has a big toothy smile.

December 7th.  It was a Saturday, and I'd been to work and Mama hadn't.  When I came home that evening I found this.

Adora was wearing Bluebelle's hat, and poor Bluebelle was in the floor!  I presume that Mama brushed against their shelf at some point during the day.  Her coordination isn't any better than mine is at this point.  Bluebelle's hat is too small for Adora, but it still looks kinda cute!

December 12th is about as random as they come.  This headshot of Rosemary turned up in my Failbook memories.

Rosemary doesn't look like that anymore!  She's got a new wig and no eyelashes, and I need to fix that latter bit.

December 15th.  I was putting Jazzie's post together and decided to fool around with the rest of my Barbie dolls.  For some reason I included Marlo, even though she ended up not being in the post.
Y'all know how I like opposites, and Dionne and Marlo are about as opposite as it gets.  New and old, red and blue, brunette and blonde, black and white.

Since I once compared Marlo to Midge, here they are together.  Marlo is slightly in front of Midge here; in reality the two are the same size.
Hmmm, maybe she doesn't favor Midge as much as I thought she did.  She doesn't look much like TNT Barbie either.  It doesn't really matter much, but I like to nitpick.

Lastly, here's Marlo with Jazzie.
These two don't look a lot alike either, but that's to be expected since there's at least twenty years separating their production dates.  I have to admit that even though Marlo can't pose worth a doggone, she IS photogenic.  I need to think of some other scenarios for her.

December 16th.  This is a Failbook memory, of Yasmina and Raya together.
I don't remember why I had them together, but I did.  I've always loved Yasmina's yellow, slightly creepy eyes.

December 18th.  Another Failbook memory.
Imani was so new that I didn't have her whole outfit yet.  I only had her sleep sack.

December 18th, present day.  Shelley (left) got a new dress that coordinated with Barbie's.  Y'all can see what happened next.
Now Shelley needs some shoes of her own!  I'd like to find a similar outfit for Midge too, so she and Barbie can pose together again.

December 21st.  Saturdays on that Cabbage Patch group I like are called Seasonal Saturdays, and the Saturday before Christmas doesn't get more seasonal than this.
Besties Elisabeth Clara and Shelley Fred are ready to deck the halls...or they would be if we were bothering with a tree.  My goofy tree at the library is up, but both Mama and I are too crippled up to put a big one together, and Uncle Man-Child would be of no help if we tried.  So Elisabeth and Shelley are just chilling out, staying warm.  Elisabeth's left pants leg has the Grinch on it.
Everyone oughta love the Grinch! Unlovable as he's supposed to be, he's...pretty darn lovable.

December 22nd.  Two radically different Barbie dolls.
Malibu P.J. is on the left and Isolde is on the right.  I think they're discussing the differences in their joints and how P.J. can sit comfortably with her legs outstretched.

December 23rd.  Bae Day Monday is for Tri-Ang Pedigrees.  Again, I have one, my beloved Kitrick Randolph Fergus.
My friend from Newfoundland got her first Tri-Ang Pedigree doll a few days ago, and we had a discussion about Tri-Ang eyes.  Because the paint used was absolute crap, these dolls have very distinctive eyes.
Kit's eyes used to be brown, and the Newfoundland doll's eyes appear to have once been green.  Now both of them have...well, mud-colored eyes!

December 24th.  Failbook memory from 2020.
I apparently had just gotten Justine-Marie, because I showed this random headshot to everyone.

December 26th.  This popped up in the mail.  Another gift from Mama.
Nathan Hunter looks fine in his blue corduroy suit, but it's nice to change things up a bit.  This should hold him until the end of winter.

December 27th.  I took this in preparation for another series of posts.
Barbie and Sindy.  Mattel and Marx.

December 28th, the not-too-smiley day that really wasn't that bad (for me, anyway).  Courtney got a new outfit in the mail.
Any of my balloon-headed Skipper dolls would've looked alright in this, but I love hot pink with dark hair.  Oh, and fringe.  I love fringe.

December 30th.  Friend from Newfoundland needed a way to fill in the last Monday, so she declared it IC and UT Day.  These factories were both based in Taiwan, and Cabbies from there have their own special attributes.  In this case I have one of each; Shelley Fred is an IC3, while Elisabeth Clara is a UT2 and has the cheeks to show for it.
UT Cabbies have VERY rosy cheeks, and IC Cabbies have very pretty complexions when they haven't discolored (some of 'em do).  Shelley Fred is lucky and has not discolored so far; indeed, his face reminds me a little of porcelain.  This porcelain look is also common for IC kids.

Later that same day.  Fluff and Farrah cuddle.
Farrah is the younger of my two Malibu Barbies.  I unfortunately don't know where her older sister is.  However, I do have a rough idea about where to look.  I'm very fond of the Malibu Barbie line, so I'd like to have 'em all together.

Still December 30th.  Two of my blue-eyed girls.
Danica and Martina, complete with That One Hair for both dolls.  By the way, it should be remembered that blue-eyed Furga dolls can look possessed if the camera's flash is wrong.  Martina, Caroline, Eva, and Gia have all fallen victim to this.

I was restless on the evening of the thirtieth, and while waiting for Mama to come home I ventured outside with Martina.
We were both in the mood to enjoy the last few hours of mild temperatures before a strong cold front pushed in.  The last week of December has been delightfully mild (with tornadoes for the south), and the first week of January is predicted to be "colder than a well-digger's butt," as my family puts it.  With snow.  Blaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!

And with that, the year has come to an end!  It was an okay year, free of a lot of tragedy and illness...well, for me, at least.  I know that people in Appalachia are still digging out from Hurricane Helene; that recovery is gonna take a long time yet.  But for me, thank God, all is well.  My family has a home, we're all alive and well, we've got enuff money to pay bills, that's a lot to be thankful for.  And the eclipse...that was the highlight of my year, and I hope I never forget it.  As to you, my dear readers, I thank all of y'all for popping in with comments or with views, for the gifts, for everything.  This blog would be pointless without readers.

I love y'all, and happy new year!

Cheers,

So random, part three

I don't know how popular posts like these are, but I like them so I'm gonna do them from time to time.  Hey, it's either that or let cute outtakes go to waste!  I'll start on March 30th, with an outtake from this post.
I need to add some color to Olivia Reese's lips; she doesn't photograph well.  Owen Presley, though...LOL, he's always such a little ham!  Case in point.
April 17th was the date that time.  Cara Raelean, Owen Presley and Hugo Jack were the subjects.  One of my Failbook groups started having themed days for the various Cabbage Patch Kids, and...well, this picture didn't fit any of the themes, but I wanted a group shot of my baldies (I didn't have Nathan Hunter or Esmond Brant at the time).  As I noted on April 19th, the bald Cabbies can get away with wearing just about anything.  That said, I'd yet to get Owen Presley anything new at that point.  Etsy has things, so I had no excuse!

This one dates back to April 21st, 2018.  I can't imagine why I didn't throw this in the blog then!
From left, Licca-chan, Michiko, Sachiko, Pepper Parson, and Saltine.  At the time I commented that my girls were ready for the weather to get warm and stay warm.  That spring must've been kinda like this last one:  unseasonably warm one day and chilly the next.

April 21st, 2024.
Rosemary relaxed after her rough day.  Even without eyelashes she looked so sweet and serene.  I just wish that cute wig fit better!

April 25th, 2024.
Lucey Dena was my work companion that day (I'm slowly but surely breaking the habit of carrying a doll to work).  When one habit dies another is born, and I've taken to wearing buttons of multiple sizes to work...oh right, I told y'all that!  I've got Blythe buttons, Chessie System buttons, a couple'a ace pride buttons, one very unusual one that combines the TARDIS with The Starry Night, and this one with two Cabbage Patch Kids on it.  I...shucks, I can't remember where I got this one!  But I wore it the day that I carried Lucey Dena.
Can't remember whether Treesa sent it to me or if it came as a freebie in one of my Etsy packages.  Either option is equally likely, but either way it's welcome now.

This is another one that popped up on my Failbook memories.  Date was May 1st, 2016.  I'd owned Johnny about two months at that point...and this was just the first time that he got upset with me.

This was the first indication I got that Johnny was going to be a problem child.  I had to restring him (it was my first time doing it), and he sulked for the rest of that evening.  So did I; restringing dolls isn't much fun in general, but restringing ball-jointed dolls REALLY isn't fun.  Not without the right tools, anyway.

May 2nd, 2024.  An outtake from this post.
As I've established ad nauseam, Terri Lee and Mary Jane are a study in opposites, but because Mary Jane is a clone of Terri Lee there are a lot of similarities too.  I prefer Terri Lee's dark eyes, but I also prefer Mary Jane's auburn hair.  I love auburn hair.  I just love these two, period, and I REALLY love how Mary Jane is giving Terri Lee the side-eye.  I solemnly swear that I did NOT pose her like that deliberately!

May 4th, 2024.  A box from Treesa had just been delivered, the one that had the Magic Nursery doll in it.  I posed Lina with a very sleepy-looking Sabine.
Sabine is a large plastic walker that I got in a trade about five years ago, and Lina is my little show-stealer, LOL.  I'd just cleaned poor Sabine's eyes and she just wanted to sleep after that, kinda like I do after I've had my eyes dilated.

May 9th, 2024.  Lina enjoys some time with Shelley Fred and Morgan.
Yep, I was thinking about Independence Day that far ahead!  Shelley had just gotten that cute outfit in the mail, and since I had these three together I thought it might make a good picture for a July 4th post.  Then Nathan Hunter joined the soft doll family, Mama found him a patriotic outfit, and this image was rendered an outtake.

May 10th, 2024, about ten p.m. local time.  This time Lina is joined by Valencia Rose and Morgan.
I'd been out chasing the aurora borealis, which was a possibility that night.  In fact, it was a certainty in parts of the Bootheel, and indeed parts of the whole country.  People in southern Louisiana got to see it, for crying out loud!  But I didn't see it, so I came home and monkeyed with these three.  Val was fresh out of the drier that night and smelled softly of Tide.  I guess my timing was just off regarding the aurora.  Several of my friends got some lovely pictures though, and I was glad for them.

May 11th, 2024.  I moved Stella Rae to Grandma's house.
The aurora was in the forecast again, so Mama and I went out to the back roads to see what we could see.  We saw fireflies and a few pretty clouds, but the aurora didn't show that time.  So we came home, I pulled Stella out of the drier, and I threw her in Angela's arms.  I was pleased to discover that Preemie Cabbies fit pretty well into My Twinn arms!  As for the aurora...my turn will come.  And I got to see the eclipse!

May 19th, 2024.  Another "I was getting ready for work and caught this" picture.
Elsie and Carrie are from the same line of dolls, but that's about where the similarities end.  Elsie is stuffed firmly and can sit up if braced from the back, while Carrie can't even do that!  I usually don't mind that, though.  It makes Carrie more of a character.

May 28th, 2024.  Kory Aryan got some new clothes to wear.
Mama, being the kind person that she is, chose to indulge one of my dolls with a dinosaur-themed outfit.  When I told her Kory looked the best in green, that was the name she selected for customization.  The Cabbage Patch group that I like on Failbook has themes for some days of the week, and I took this picture in preparation for a Wednesday Wearables segment.  Wednesday Wearables is for new clothes (or for a favorite old outfit), and Kory got a lot of likes.

June 1st, 2024.  Taniyah Yasmin poses for an aborted review of a clothing set.
The clothing set in question is this one.  This layette set dates back to 2006 and was a Target exclusive.
The set includes three little rompers with matching headbands, a bottle, and a binky that won't go into any of my dolls' mouths.  Still, the clothes fit Taniyah like a glove, so I won't complain.

June 2nd, 2024.  An outtake from Elsie's review.
My Cabbage Patch Kids are extremely easygoing, and Alexandra Claire proved to be a capable babysitter.

June 9th, 2024.  Lena has a brother.
Leo is his name.  Lina has another brother in the post, but it'll be a day yet before he gets here.

June 10th, 2024.  I was moving more dolls out of Casa del Luna, and River Song was one of the ones I grabbed.  Here she cuddles with Allie Kathleen, arguably the softest of my Cabbies.
They don't have much in common except for blonde hair.  If I'd chosen Alexandra Claire the story would've been different, since she and River Song share a hair color, an eye color, and a first name.  But Allie Kathleen is who I picked and River Song appears happy with that.

June 11th, 2024.  The season's first fireworks were crackling in the street, and Gabby was strutting her stuff.  I had this Charlie Brown outfit on Cindy Lou Who, but the hat didn't fit over her hair so Gabby is wearing it.  Yellow begs for a dark-skinned doll, but Danica just got a new dress and I owe Gabby.
Gabby had to be my oddball.  I moved Danica, Silver Bird, Jettivee, and River Song over to Grandma's house and none of them had a speck of mold on them.  Then when I picked up Gabby...she was covered in the crap.  It's that powdery white sh!t that grows in vintage Crissy doll eyes, and it was easy to clean off Gabby's skin, but I'm taking no chances.  She's being quarantined right now, just to be safe.  The Velvet that Tam sent me last Christmas remains bright-eyed, and I'm doing everything in my power to keep it that way.  By the way, Tam, Velvet says hello.
June 16th, 2024.  A scorcher with scattered thundershowers.  It was thundering pretty close when I saw Carrie passed out on top of Elmyra.
Unlike some of my little dolls, Carrie is not afraid of storms.  For that matter, neither is Elmyra.  A very strong gust of wind hit the house about fifteen minutes after I took this picture, by the way.  We lost out internet for eighteen hours, and our mail carrier lost two trees.  Thank God that's all it was.

I think that'll do it for now!

Love,
RagingMoon1987
