Sunday randomness: Skelita and Pix

Today's image dates back to 2014, around this time of year.

At the time both Monster High and Lalaloopsy were a thing, and the dolls pictured are Art Class Skelita Calaveras (whom I didn't review) and Pix E. Flutters (whom I did review).  I just thought they looked cute on top of Mama's couch (I was living with her at the time).

November 17th is D-Day for both Mama and a second or third cousin of mine.  Mama will be seeing the oncologist to see how her bloodwork reads, and we'll be going from there.  She's been a-drinkin' the water to rehydrate herself, and I'm still praying that that's all it is.  My opinions on cancer have never been high, but they are at an all-time low right now, with Mama's cousin being sick and inoperable, and two of my favorite ex-teachers being sick, and Graeme Edge being dead...<wails and gnashes teeth>...NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  Ahem...Second-or-Third Cousin does NOT have cancer, but he hasn't exactly had a fun year either.  He is (or was) a baseball player, and back in the spring he got plugged in the eye by a baseball.  He kept the eye, but the ball did a number on it and the doctors are STILL trying to determine how much vision he'll regain in that eye, if any.  He's had multiple surgeries and procedures and has been in a lot of pain, so we're hoping that this last surgery will be it.  The surgery is to close a hole in his retina and hopefully return his center of vision.  His peripheral vision in that eye is fine, he says, so maybe closing that hole will help.  I'm hopin' and prayin' for the best for both Mama and Second-or-Third Cousin.

Love,

Living la vida loca

Exactly half a year ago I was complaining about how hot it was in the house.  Now I've got reason to complain about it being cold.  Look at Pix E. Flutters' hair!
Pix's hair doesn't turn pink unless her surroundings drop below 66 degrees Fahrenheit.  Apparently it's that cool in the house right now.

In case you haven't guessed, our furnace went out.  Yep, the brand new one that we got installed back in late May.  On Thanksgiving I got a whiff of something funny when the unit kicked on.  It smelled exactly like something burnt out.  Then the unit began making strange noises.  My mother can't smell well because of allergies, so she thought I was losing it until earlier this evening.  She heard the noise for herself, so now we're sitting around with the unit off and the breakers thrown, per a friend's suggestion.  We may be able to have it looked at tomorrow, and I'm praying that the men can fix it without a lot of fuss.  Please cross your fingers for us; Mama and I have a large group of pets, and I hate for them to be uncomfortable.

Cheers, I guess,

Dolly Dress Discussion: new Vi and Va outfits

MGA Entertainment's Vi and Va dolls were only introduced this past spring, but I think they may already be discontinued.  Their Facebook page lies quiet (last entry was on May 27th), and when I went to Target yesterday I didn't see any of the dolls.  In fact, I only saw the dolls there ONCE!!!  That one time I was smart enough to grab one of the outfits, and I promptly discovered that some of Mattel's dolls can wear it, as can Lalaloopsy Girls and Pinkie Cooper dolls.  Today I found two more outfits at Goodwill; these two were originally intended for Viviana and Valentina themselves.
I don't know if you can see those price stickers or not, but if you can, you may see that the prices are marked WAY DOWN.  Since these dresses are constructed differently from the one intended for Roxxi, my plan is to fit these to the dolls that can wear Roxxi's dress.
For a refresher, these dolls, from left, are Twilight Sparkle (Hasbro), Stacie (Mattel), Princess Malucia (Mattel), Pepper Parson (Bridge Direct), and Pix E. Flutters (MGA Entertainment).  Notice that Stacie is still wearing Roxxi's dress!  But first things first.  I have a Bratz Girlz Yasmin in my midst, and she has nothing to wear but shoes and painted-on undergarments.
Vi and Va were small-bodied MGA dolls just like Yasmin is, so that's given me an idea...and I think you know where I'm going with it!  Just for grins, let's see how she looks in the Roxxi dress.
Houston, we have a problem.  The Vi and Va dolls have small bodies, but Yasmin's is even smaller!  This hangs on her.  No way can she wear it.  Perhaps she can wear the other dresses?  They are constructed differently, having honest-to-God sleeves instead of plastic spaghetti straps that the Roxxi dress has.  We'll soon see!  Here's Valentina's dress.
Valentina (Va) is/was the younger sibling and got this cute white dress.  The dress is trimmed in bright pink ribbons and pale pink jersey fabric that is printed with pink and blue flowers.  It comes with a pink plastic headband and...YELLOW shoes???  Those shoes do not match anything about that dress, so what MGA was thinking there, I'll never know.  Anywho, the set is rounded out with a plastic doll/figurine, again for reasons that I'll never know.  There's got to be a reason for its inclusion, but that's not the point of this post.

YASMIN
The Roxxi dress didn't fit Yasmin, but out of curiosity I put the Valentina dress on her anyway.  And...
...lo and behold, Yasmin looks pretty good!  The dress is big on her, but since it's got sleeves instead of clear spaghetti straps, it doesn't sag as much.  This is perfect for Yasmin's little girl self.  As a bonus, the headband fits.  I neglected to photograph this part, but Yasmin's head is big enough for it.  Since Bratz Girls have shoe-feet on pegs like all other Bratz, Yasmin won't be able to wear the yellow shoes.  No great loss.

STACIE
This looks okay on Stacie, but the fit is tight.  The Velcro only partially goes together in back.  It's also short to the point of comical.  It's hard to tell because the skirt is so full, but trust me on this one.  I doubt I'll put Stacie in this again.  The headband was too big, and the shoes didn't fit Stacie's flat feet.

PRINCESS MALUCIA
This is the first doll I've tried that could even come close to wearing the shoes.  They don't fit Mal very well, but they do go on and stay on reasonably well.  As for the dress itself, it flatters Mal's body better than it does Stacie's.  The Velcro goes together all the way, and the skirt provides more coverage, though it's still pretty short.  The headband sort of fit, but it wanted to slip over Mal's eyes constantly so I took it off.  Not that Mal needs a headband or shoes anyway.  She has her own shoes, plus a crown, both in a shade of pink that will coordinate with this dress.  This is princessey enough that I'd put it on Mal again, provided that she has her own crown and shoes.

PEPPER PARSON
The bodice is a smidge big around Pepper's chest, but other than that this fits her fine.  Since Pepper has shorter legs than Stacie and Mal, the skirt falls lower and looks less vampy.  The shoes did not fit, so Pepper is wearing Mal's.  Okay, they don't match perfectly, but I like pink shoes better with this dress than I do those danged yellow ones!  The headband WOULD have fit, but Pepper's smooth little head would not allow it.  Stretching the band over her ears could've technically worked, but that would've put a lot of strain on the plastic so I abandoned that idea and left Pepper as is for the photograph.

PIX E. FLUTTERS
Pix has a unique egg-shaped body, so I wasn't expecting this dress to fit her.  Much to my surprise, it does, and it looks pretty good.  The bodice is big at the top, and maybe the skirt is a little short, but Pix has such a cartoonish body that this isn't a huge deal.  Neither the shoes or the headband fit, which is too bad because the shoes are very similar in color to Pix's hair.  Since this dress clashes with Pix's coloring I put her stock shoes on.  Their white flower decorations help tie the look together a little better.  In short, I love the way this looks on Pix.

TWILIGHT SPARKLE
As with most of the dolls above, this dress is loose around Twilight's chest.  She's on the short side, so the skirt hangs at a reasonable length.  The shoes and the headband both fit and fit surprisingly well; the shoes fall off occasionally, but Twilight can wear them better than any of the other dolls I've shared.  They match her yellow leg a little too closely though, so if I were to put this on Twilight again I'd probably use her stock shoes.  I probably won't make Twilight wear this again, though, because it doesn't suit her character.  This is more like something that Pinkie Pie would wear.  I'm not a huge fan of Pinkie Pie, by the way.  Her voice irritates me.
*********************************************************************************
With Valentina's dress out of the way, here's Viviana's.
Viviana (Vi) got an outfit that looks more like a pajamas set than a dress.  It has a pale blue smock top with a flowered collar and matching flowered shorts.  The shoes are pink and the headband is blue, but they are otherwise the same as those that came with Valentina's dress, so I probably won't discuss them.  Another funny-looking little doll makes an appearance, and again I'm at a loss for reasons why.  I'll probably pose these plastic dolls with my Nenderoid figures.  LOL, didn't think I had any, did ya!!!  Yep, I do.  I was hoping for some Puella Magi Madoka Magica figures (Kyoko's my gal!), but Hastings only had Idolmaster 1 and 2.  They're cute little figures, regardless of what character they are, but I digress.

YASMIN
I'll go in the same order, with Yasmin going first.
This set is big on Yasmin, but not intolerably so.  Since it looks like a pajamas set the big fit can be forgiven.  Hey, who the heck wants to sleep in tight pajamas???  I sure don't!  The headband fits and the shoes don't.

STACIE
I wish I had a little teddy bear to pose in Stacie's arm.  This set suits her wonderfully well.  It's not too big or too small, and it looks like something a girl her age would wear to bed.  I'm loving this.

PRINCESS MALUCIA
Likewise, Princess Malucia wears this like a champ.  She doesn't wear it quite as well as Stacie does, but this is good enough for Mal to wear to a pajama party thrown by one of her common acquaintances.  The shoes fit reasonably well, but frankly, this set could've done without the shoes.  I only put them on Mal because her high-heeled feet look weird without shoes.

PEPPER PARSON
This set looks cute on Pepper as well, but I'm starting to think that EVERYTHING looks cute on Pepper.  Everything that I've tried on her looks adorable.  It probably helps that Pepper's coloring is rather neutral; black and white both match everything!

PIX E. FLUTTERS
Again, I was afraid that this wouldn't fit Pix's egg-shaped body, and this time I had to contend with pants legs!  Pix's sizable feet don't always fit through pants.  As it turns out, I needn't have worried.  Pix wears this with aplomb.  Her tights even match the flowered collar and shorts, but to be perfectly honest, I probably won't put this on Pix very often.  She already has a cute set of pajamas, and they match her coloring better than these do.

TWILIGHT SPARKLE
Once again, Twilight is the only one who can wear the complete outfit.  The shoes fit reasonably well, and so does the headband.  As a bonus, this outfit suits Twilight's coloring better; you can't see the streaks in her hair very well, but they're pink and blue like this outfit.  Twilight definitely will wear this again.
*********************************************************************************
In short, these Vi and Va dresses are good for Pinkie Cooper, Equestria Girls, Lalaloopsy Girls, and the Princess Malucia doll.  Stacie and the older Bratz Kidz can wear some of these outfits, but the fit is hit and miss.  If you have any of the dolls I mentioned in the first sentence, I highly recommend these outfits.  Hasbro, MGA Entertainment, and Mattel have all been lax about releasing new outfits for their dolls, so these Vi and Va clothes are an excellent way to rectify that.

The Vi and Va series has one more dress available, that one belonging to flaxen-haired Felicia.  Here's what it looks like:
What on God's green earth is up with these accessories???  Who would wear a pink headband with a blue and black ensemble???  Brother!  Anywho, Felicia's outfit is the only one I don't own now.  Given the fact that the three dresses I do have fit all my dolls differently, this one will probably be full of surprises.  I hope desperately that I can find it, maybe tucked away in Target's discount section?  That would be fabulous.

Dolly Dress Discussion: Vi and Va Roxxi's dress

Ladies, gents, goofballs, it's RagingMoon1987 with some more chatter about doll clothes.  I do this so often that I decided to warn y'all in the title from now on.  Anyway, today my family braved the rain (not snow, thank God) and the resulting treacherous roads to run some errands up at Cape Girardeau, and while we were there I decided to pop into Target.  Remember when I mentioned MGA Entertainments new Vi and Va line?  Yep, they're here!  Or, they were at Target, at least.  I saw the birthday set and some new clothes.  I'm still holding out on one of the dolls because their eyes put me off somewhat, but the clothes are another story.  So far there are four outfits, which leads me to believe that there's one for each character.  Some of the outfits come with cute little anime-like mini dolls, but I just went with a single dress.  I got the one that's intended for Roxxi.
The dominant colors are yellow and orange, with blue and red accents.  I'm unsure whether the pattern on the skirt is supposed to be feathers, leaves, or ears of wheat, but either way it makes for an interesting looking garment.  The feathery/leafy material is stiff and unhemmed, but I doubt raveling will be a problem.  The petticoat underneath is orange with gold sparkles, and the bolero is a separate piece.  The dress is sleeveless and thus held up with clear rubber straps.  It's not perfect, but it's a cute dress.

Anywho, I got this dress with the intention of trying it on some of the dolls I've already got.  Pix E. Flutters, Pepper Parson, and Princess Malucia were all on my mind since they have small bodies and few clothes.  Pix went first.
The bodice is big around Pix's chest and slides around a lot, and the shoes didn't even come close to fitting.  Other than that this is fine.  I like how this looks with Pix's coloring and build, and I like how it covers most of her painted-on tights.  The bolero helps to hold the bodice in place, though it's still a task to get the bodice flattened out.

Pepper went next.
The dress fits Pepper better than it does Pix, but it's still a little big in the bodice.  Again, the bolero helps to hold things in place.  Since Pepper's blue stock shoes match the blue belt so well I didn't bother trying on the orange shoes, so I can't tell you if those fit or not.  I doubt it since they're roomy shoes, and Pepper has little feet.  Overall I'm very happy with this result; this new dress is longer than Pepper's stock dress, so it provides a little more coverage.  As a last little note on this section, Pepper's coloring matches Roxxi's the closest of my three dolls.  Since the dress flatters Pepper's coloring she'll probably get to wear this again...that is, if Princess Malucia will give it back!

Right, Princess Malucia.  She makes Angelica Pickles look like a polishing school valedictorian, so spoiled is she.  I doubt she'd be into sharing, which brings us to the dress.
I don't think Malucia looks as good in the dress as Pepper does, but it fits her better so odds are she's going to be wearing it for awhile.  Heck, the shoes even fit!  Not well, mind you, but they DO fit.  My main issue with this overall look is that the colors of the dress don't jive with Malucia's hair.  Valentina's dress would be a better match since it's pink.

My intention is to try and get all four outfits (of course), so odds are this one will end up belonging to Pepper.  I just think she looks best in it.  This little experiment has left me all the more curious about Vi and Va themselves, too.  Since Pix, Pepper, and Malucia can all wear Vi and Va's clothes, I wonder if it'll work the other way around.  I may have to get over my dislike of Vi and Va's eyes and have a looksee.  In the meantime, if you have a Lalaloopsy Girl, a Pinkie Cooper doll, or a Princess Malucia doll, I recommend Roxxi's dress at the very least.  The fit is not perfect on any of them, but it's close enough that all three dolls look good while wearing it.  I'm sorry to say I can't give you any information on the other dresses yet, but I've got that planned.

Lalaloopsy Diaper Surprise Blossom Flowerpot review

At the time that I cobbled the text part of this review together I'd been bitten by the Lalaloopsy bug (remember that I type up the bulk of this then add pictures later).  The last doll I reviewed was a Lalaloopsy Girl, and this one is one of the babies.  Most of the Lalaloopsy Babies have vinyl heads and stuffed bodies, but the Diaper Surprise dolls are different.  They are hard plastic and rely on just a teensy bit of bathroom humor to sell themselves.  Well, okay, maybe more than just a teensy bit.  For some reason MGA has been going in that direction lately.  Go figure.  Anywho, these dolls have separate diaper sets available, and you know how I love extra clothes for dolls, so I plunked down the money for one of these goofy Lalaloopsies.  There were only two characters available when I was buying, so I chose Blossom Flowerpot.
The other character at the time was Peanut Big Top.  Blossom and Peanut have since been joined by Cinder Slippers.

I already own the regular Blossom Flowerpot, so that should make things interesting.  Here's how Baby Blossom compares with her older self (I also threw Pix E. Flutters into the mix for further size comparison).
There's something about Baby Blossom that makes her...well, I don't think she's as cute as her older self.  I'm not sure what it is yet.  Baby Blossom is quite a bit larger than her Lala counterparts.  And since she's a baby, her proportions are different from those of the other dolls.  Her proportions are similar to those of your typical baby doll, but a bit more exaggerated.  Notice the differences between Blossom and Anita, my unenthusiastic Horsman baby:
"Who is THIS weirdo???"

Notice that while both dolls have big heads and short limbs, Blossom's proportions are much more cartoonish.

Despite her large size, Blossom is very lightweight.  She's got a hollow hard plastic body with vinyl head and limbs.  Her hair is pink, typical of Lalaloopsies and accurate for her character.
However, there are no molded stitch lines on this hair, just two molded pigtails (also accurate for her character) and a few molded curls...
The paint work on one of these beads is a bit sloppy.  I'm willing to bet someone put the hat on this doll before the paint was fully dry.  Overall this is a fairly big departure from the usual Lalaloopsy hair; both the Girls and the original Lalas have hair that's molded to look like yarn.  However, it's accurate for a baby's hair, which tends to fall in wispy, soft, short tendrils like what Blossom has.  I guess I could pretend that Blossom's hair is made out of very fine yarn...or fake fur!  LOL

Blossom may divert from the Lala norm with her hair, but her eyes are classic Lalaloopsy:  big, black, button eyes with molded eyelashes.
My sister hates these, by the way.  I'd love to hear what she'd say if I'd chosen Bea Spells A Lot instead of Blossom!  Bea is not available as a Diaper Surprise character, but there IS a regular soft-bodied doll and she's freaky...especially when she's got her binky in her mouth!

Alrighty, back to Blossom.  She again strays from Lalaloopsy tradition by not having molded patch cheeks.  Instead she has some blush painted on.
The blush is hard to photograph.  It's painted well and does a good job of making Blossom's cheeks look rosy like baby cheeks should, but I miss the patches.  That may be why I think she's not as cute as the older Blossom.  Or maybe it's this mouth.
Yeah, not a huge fan of the mouth.  It's your average bottle mouth and thus serves a purpose, as you will soon see, but I wish there were a little more expression with it.  It IS possible to make a bottle mouth with a bit of expression, like my Gerber baby does.
I mean, Blossom DOES have a little bit of lip definition, but I'd hardly call that an expression.

As a final note, there's this to be seen.
I have no idea what that spot is about, but I can't get it to come off.  I've used spit, I've used water, and I've used soap and water, but nothing took the spot off.  That makes photographing this doll that much trickier, because the spot catches the light.

So aside from the button eyes Blossom's head and face are mostly devoid of the usual Lalaloopsy features.  Fortunately, the same can't be said for the body.  First and foremost, she's got the smooth egg-shaped body common to all the Lalaloopsy dolls I've handled (including Pix).  She has molded stitching down the midline of her torso, which is something new to the Lalaloopsy world (none of my other girls have this)
She has an X "stitched" on her bellybutton, which literally is a button!
Her sewn-on date is stamped on her rear.
Blossom's limbs are stubby and chubby like baby limbs tend to be, but unfortunately, the vinyl is stiff as a board.  You'd think that since this is a baby doll she'd have a few soft appendages, but heck no!  Blossom is hard as a rock.  The limbs have some details that normal Lala limbs don't, though.  They have molded stitch lines, just like the torso does.
Her hands are "mitten hands" typical of all Lalas, but there is more stitch definition on them (not typical of Lalas).  Note that the thumb has a full ring of "stitches" around it.  I love this detail.

Blossom's legs are short as well, and they have molded stitches along the sides of her legs...
...and around the soles of her feet.
I was hoping that since the soles are partly flat that Blossom would be able to stand...but she can't.  She can't sit worth a doggone either; her bum isn't even touching the countertop in the picture below.  Her arms have simple rotation that doesn't look realistic in any pose.  I think she looks like she's thumbing a ride.
In short, Blossom's mobility, for lack of a better term, sucks.  All these joints simply rotate around their point of attachment.  The head has a rotating neck joint but doesn't hold a pose, which I assume is to help accommodate this doll's gimmick.

Oh yes, the gimmick.  You may have gotten some clues about the gimmick if you looked closely at the pictures of Blossom's body.  The button on her stomach is a clue, as is the bottle mouth.  Also, Blossom has two holes in the bottom of her torso.  Not one like my Gerber doll, but two.  I'm NOT going to show these, because guess what?  Said holes are supposed to represent bodily orifices.  Yep, Blossom is a drink and wet doll, complete with something I've never seen on any other doll...a butthole!  I've seen plenty of openings on drink-and-wet dolls that are supposed to represent urethras, but never the nether region.  One hole really would've done the trick, so go figure on MGA's frame of mind there.  But wait, there's more!  Remember that this doll's name is "Diaper Surprise," and remember that I said she relied on bathroom humor.  If you need one last hint, check out the logo from the package:
Yeah, you read that right.  That's the diaper surprise.  One of Blossom's accessories is a charm bracelet with one charm on it (both made of brightly colored plastic)
Another of Blossom's accessories is this bottle, done up to look like her pet butterfly.
And she comes with four diapers.
All of these items factor into the gimmick except for the default diaper, which Blossom wore inside the box:
This diaper is an ordinary diaper, designed to cover Blossom's nudity.  The other diapers are integral to the gimmick.  Whaaaaaat, you thought that these charms actually fell out of the doll's bunghole?  No, these dolls don't actually crap out their charms.  Rather, these special diapers each have one charm located in the crotch area.  There are also three extra sets of diapers available, also with charms inside.  The charms in turn are covered with some sort of thin paper.
What you do is you fill this bottle up with water.  Don't use any other liquid or it could do a number on this doll's innards.  Then you put the top on the bottle and put the bottle in Baby's mouth.  Push it in very firmly!
After that you squeeze the bottle.  The water will go everywhere and make a huge mess, so I recommend doing this over the sink or covering the play area with a towel.  You don't have to get all the water in Baby's tummy, just squeeze the bottle once.  After that, press Baby's tummy button, then peel off that diaper!
This particular diaper had a crown charm in it, but it's also possible to get buttons, butterflies, hearts, flowers, and other shapes, like these:
The one on the far right looks like something that Mami Tomoe would wear.  LOL, I couldn't resist!  Most of my charms are yellow like this, but several other colors are also available; I did get that pink charm, and this one came out blue:
It's all part of the surprise element; you never know what charm you're going to end up with!  Once you've got all the charms, you hook them onto the bracelet.
The charms and the bracelet are both stiff plastic, so hooking these charms on there is quite difficult.  I'm an adult woman who has sewn aprons, crocheted Barbie dresses with teensy steel hooks, and hand-beaded porcupine quills into earrings, and even I had a hard time getting this bracelet to go together!  Not that it's really worth the effort in my case; the bracelet doesn't fit my fat wrist.  It will fit a child's wrist quite nicely though...once you get it hooked on there, that is; the clasp is also fiddly.  This accessory is NOT kid-friendly at all; moms and dads will likely have to help put this bad boy together.  As an extra aside, I also advise rinsing the charms after they've come out, as they tend to be coated with a wet layer of the paper.  This is harmless, but it feels nasty.

Okay, so you've used up all your diapers.  THEN WHAT???  Well, it turns out that these diapers hold one more surprise, located in the lining of the diaper below the charm.  Here's what the linings look like when they are dry:
And here's how they look when they're wet:
Each of these diapers has a color-change panel in the crotch.  Get this part wet, and a pattern will appear in some sort of color.  Like the charms, the material used is random, thus you never know what sort of pattern you'll get until you get it wet.  So even after you've collected all the charms you can continue to play with these diapers.  Bit of advice, though:  DO NOT store these diapers wet, and don't hand wash them.  Hand washing will cause the color-changing pattern to deteriorate.  Another word of advice:  be careful when removing these diapers from their boxes, as they are very tightly tacked into the packages.  Words cannot convey my hatred of MGA Entertainment's packaging, by the way.  Too much plastic, too many of those infernal little plastic ties, too many rubber bands.  Too much of everything is too much for me.

Where was I?  Oh yeah, accessories.  In addition to diapers that help Blossom poop flowers and stars, there are your more traditional accessories.  There is this bowl and a plastic spoon to "feed" your baby.
In addition Blossom comes with a few more articles of clothing.  She has that hat which featured prominently in the earlier pictures.
The hat is sewn into the shape of a pink flower, complete with a stem on top.
It's a nice little article of clothing, well-sewn and soft, but it catches pet hair like mad.  Keep this in mind if you live with cats or dogs.

Lastly, Blossom also has a bib, which keeps with her flower theme by being done up to look like a daisy.
This bib has three layers of fleece (green, white, and sparkly yellow), and ties on with a hot pink satin ribbon.
It's difficult to tie this bib right, because Blossom's bulky head, skinny neck, and bulky body leave little room to work.  In short I like the clothes, but I'm a tad disappointed that there wasn't a little more ON the doll!  I mean, booties look cute, and so do little jackets!  I do like what was included, though...especially the hat!  So...what else do I like about Blossom?  What DON'T I like?  Let's see...

BAD
*Doll is not soft at all.  I can understand why plastic was utilized instead of fabric, but there is such a thing as SOFT PLASTIC!!!
*Posability is terrible.  Blossom can't sit unless propped up, can't stand, can't wave very well, and can't turn her head.
*Few clothes, unless you count the diapers.
*Face is blank and in my opinion, lacks the usual Lalaloopsy charm.
*Diapers must be handled with care when wet.
*Small parts.
*Bracelet is difficult to put together and difficult to fasten.
*Bib is difficult to tie, though this is likely a problem unique to Blossom (Peanut has a clown's ruff instead of a bib)
*Mine has a shiny mark on her face that won't come off.  Again, this may be a problem unique to my doll, but beware nevertheless.
*Gimmick may be considered crude by some.

GOOD
*Blossom is sturdy and lightweight.  She won't shatter if dropped, and she's less likely to make a good club, though I still don't advise swinging this at someone.
*Clothes are cute, well-made, and appropriate for a baby doll.
*Accessories are also appropriate and have some play value.  If you don't want to change Baby's diaper, you can pretend to feed her Cheerios and then burp her.  LOL
*The Lalaloopsy theme is adhered to.  Some of the basic features are missing, but it's still obvious that this doll is a Lala.
*Also character-appropriate.  This doll is marketed as Blossom Flowerpot, and she lives up to that marketing...right down to the hairstyle.
*Good for smaller children, so long as the charms are taken away first.
*Diapers are colorful and come with several surprise elements that make them valuable play items.
*Gimmick, while crude, provides an original spin on a very old concept.

Drink-and-wet dolls are nothing new.  My Gerber baby dates back to...I think she dates back to the 1970's, and the concept has been around long before that.  These Lalaloopsy Diaper Surprise dolls take that old idea and put a new spin on it with their charmed diapers.  However, the idea of a doll "pooping" charms is off-putting for some.  If you read the link that I included above, you'll notice that Miss Emily entitled her review on Moxie Girlz Poopsy Pets "What Were They Thinking?"  Not surprisingly, Lalaloopsy Diaper Surprise dolls made it onto a "what were they thinking" list too.  In spite of this doll's cuteness and her originality, I have to say that I agree with this line of thinking.  If you stop to think about it, you're literally wearing pieces of doll crap on your wrist!  Plus, I can't get over the fact that this doll has a butthole!  Since realism isn't the point of this toy one hole that simulated the urethra would've sufficed, but nooooooo, we've got to have something else!  Finally, Blossom is hard as a rock.  I admit that at the ripe old age of twenty-seven I still like to cuddle with my dolls, and on the evening of November 2nd Blossom was my doll of choice.  Yep, I held her on my lap during Skyscraper Live...and she wasn't a very comfortable companion.  In short, I advise extreme discretion when buying this toy.  If you're not bothered by a doll that is stiff as a board, has an anus, and holds charms in her used diapers, then this is a great little toy.  She's also great for games of make-believe if your child is into that; the bowl, spoon, and bottle are perfect for pretend breakfast.  However, if you are looking for something soft or are revolted by the gimmick then I'd skip these and go with a Mooshka doll or a regular Lalaloopsy Baby.

I do look forward to crocheting some little booties for Blossom, though!  I think I may go with lime green to match the stem on that hat, and little yellow ribbons to match the bib.  But before all that can happen...I get to open Christmas gifts!!!!!!!!  And I get to watch my sister and brother-in-law open theirs too.  I'm particularly excited about one present for them; I got them a special box with some odds and ends inside.  Sort of a gift within a gift, so to speak.  I'll let y'all know how that goes.

Merry Christmas,
RagingMoon1987

P.S.:  I haven't seen any of the Newborn Lalas in stores yet, but they appear to be smaller than this baby doll that I have reviewed here.  When I see one I plan on reviewing her/him as well.
