AG Spotlight: Felicity Merriman

Greetings, readers.  The Moon Girl has decided to give each of us American Girls our very own post...but in order to do that she had to sit down and interview every single one of us.  That is no small task since there are almost thirty of us.  Since I am the oldest, I get to go first.

FULL NAME:  Felicity Merriman

NICKNAME:  "Lissie."  The Moon Girl rarely calls me this, but the other dolls do it all the time.  Lindsey also jokingly calls me "Duracell," since I have a copper top.  Aye, I may date from the eighteenth century, but I know what batteries are.  I remind myself more of Energizer batteries, since I keep going and going and going...

BIRTHDAY:  April 21st

HOMETOWN:  Williamsburg, Virginia

HEAD MOLD:  Classic

HAIR COLOR:  Red

EYE COLOR:  Green

FAVORITE COLORS:  Green, blue, and pink

THINGS I LIKE:  Music, animals (especially horses), being outside, playing my guitar for my friends, reading (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is my favorite author), 

THINGS I DISLIKE:  Animal cruelty, sewing, dancing, being inside too long, sitting still too long (unless I have a good book), and Amazing Maddie

MY CHOICE OF MUSIC:  I like the baroque classical period, which is the music I grew up with.  I am also catching up with the times and am learning to play more modern songs.

PET:  Posie, a lamb.  

BEST FRIENDS:  Elizabeth isn't here, but Molly fits the bill nicely.  I am considering starting a red-headed league with Robyn, Reagan, and Sasha, since we're the only large redheads in the Moon House.  Lastly, I am quite fond of Kyle, a fellow Patriot.

SOMEONE I'D RATHER AVOID:  If I could kill Amazing Maddie I would.  I also don't always see eye to eye with Julie, Kailey, and Lark, but they are nice, down-to-Earth girls so I make an effort to get along with them.

HOW I CAME HERE:  Christmas gift!  The Moon Girl was eleven or twelve, neither of us quite remember which.  She chose ME over Amazing Maddie that year.  That's right, Maddie.  Me.  Get over it.

ABOUT ME:  I was the Moon Girl's first, and for awhile, her only.  Her sister had Molly, and despite a two hundred-year age gap we got on quite well.  We are still very close.

In the time since my life in the 1700's I have grown accustomed to wearing long dresses.  The only time I wear modern clothes is for jujitsu class.

Aye, I practice jujitsu.  These modern martial arts are a wonderful way to learn to control one's temper, which I never outgrew.  So far I have never had to use my physical skills against anyone, but if Maddie keeps pushing her luck I may have to.  

In other news, I like to garden and to take care of animals.  I also like to read; Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a century younger than I am, but I do love his stories.  I am the only girl in the Moon House that hates dancing.  I became good at the minuet after practicing, but I hated it in 1776 and I hate it now.  I prefer to play my guitar and back up Zoe's singing while the others dance.  Or I WOULD prefer...the Moon Girl hasn't gotten my guitar yet!

*Side note from the Moon Girl:  Good grief, gal, do you know how much your accessories cost nowadays???  With inflation becoming a problem I can't be buying much!

Oh, I see.  Well, I suppose I will have to be...dare I say it...patient.  According to that odd man that Luciana watches on television, patience is for wimps.  Regarding my personal beliefs, I am a staunch conservative and a devout Anglican, which sometimes puts me at odds with Julie, Kailey, and Lark all of whom are leftists.  I can usually turn Julie and Kailey inside out when it comes to debates, but Lark little more well-read.  I do not like to quarrel with my younger friends, so we usually agree to disagree, and then focus on something we all like, like music or animals.  We all also agree that preserving the environment is important, though I cannot seem to impress upon Julie the dangers of large hail to solar panels.  Just because softball-sized hail hasn't happened here doesn't mean it WON'T.

I think that covers me for now.  If I can think of anything else worth sharing I'll add it in.

Random post about AG's 35th Anniversary dolls

It's been a noisy, stormy, rainy morning here in the Bootheel, so I cobbled together a random post.  After much ado, fanfare, and speculation American Girl has released their 35th Anniversary collection in the form of reissues of the first six girls in their pre-BeForever clothes.  Note that for some reason Molly is already sold out.  I always thought Molly and Samantha were the two most boring ones, but for some weird reason everyone loves them.

Here's the other two, Josefina and my beloved Felicity.

I'm most tempted by Addy, whom I've always preferred in pink, though I won't deny that I love her in blue too.  While I'm not chomping at the bit to get any of it, I'm certainly very glad to see a revival of the old outfits, the ones released before BeForever, the ones that I grew up with.  And finally...FINALLY my Kirsten is getting a new release!  What's not to like about that?  I asked my Kirsten what she thinks about it and she's super-excited.

Of course the modern dolls aren't being left out of the fun.  Dig these outfits!  Here's the outfit for eighteen-inch dolls...

There are also some cute birthday-themed playsets that I don't have the money and the space for, but they're still fun to look at.  I'm most excited about the outfits for the eighteen-inch doll and the Wellie Wisher since I don't have a Bitty Baby (yet, LOL).  The eighteen-inch outfit SPARKLES, and who doesn't love SPARKLES???  In the mood I'm in I could do with a few sparkles (didn't sleep).  LOL, I must admit though that this stuff is eye candy for the collector, though I have no plans to get any of it yet.  I'll wait until the outfits pop up on eBay, and for the reissued dolls I'll just say "no thanks" since I have most of them.

I'm going to go batten down the hatches for another wave of thunderstorms, but what say y'all???  Will any of y'all be getting a reissue doll?  Discuss.

For my lady

Last night I was tinkering around with my old Felicity doll, getting her into a new dress, when I caught her lying like this.

She looked even goofier BEFORE I snapped the picture; her left eye was hanging wide open.  It shifted a little when I reached for my phone to take the picture.

Being the daughter of a historian and a Revolutionary War re-enactor meant that I was constantly asking my father for advice on Felicity's clothes.  Was this accurate?  Was that accurate?  WHYYY wasn't this accurate???  LOL, as I aged I grew a little less uptight about Felicity's appearance.  I doubt that colonial ballgowns were decorated with huge pine cones, for example.

That was what Felicity wore for Christmas last year, by the way.  She has that lovely blue taffeta gown, but the pine cone dress is what she wore.  I think this year's dress might be a tad more accurate.

The pinner cap is made of the same material as the underskirt and I doubt that's authentic, but boy howdy, I can't get over how nice Felicity looks in black!  Both the black dress and the pine cone dress were gifts from my mother, as cute American Girl clothes often are, and I think she did quite well in both cases.

Another post on American Girl dolls

This post will merely be me drawing your attention to someone else's blog (again).  Don't worry, it's worth it!  Here recently I've been wondering what my historical dolls would look like in modern/semi-modern clothes.  I'm particularly curious about how Felicity would look in a pair of bell bottoms.

It seems I'm not alone; one of my fellow bloggers decided to dig out her historical girls (and a couple of Girls of the Year), and put them in Julie Albright's clothes.  Julie, for those of you who don't know, is the little hippie girl from San Francisco who had a very cute Asian friend once upon a time.  Anyway, Marjorie runs the blog My Dolly Addiction on Wordpress, the main focus of which is eighteen-inch play dolls like American Girl and Maplelea.  Today's focus was on Julie and her clothes; Marjorie had enough outfits to dress a decent chunk of her crew, and one of those dolls was Felicity.  Marjorie's Lissie wasn't wearing bell bottoms, but she still looked like a million bucks.  That post can be found here.

Now I DEFINITELY want a pair of bell bottoms for my Felicity!  And a hanbok for Denise too!  LOL, I can hear my pocketbook groaning.
