Dolly mixture

The other day I shared a picture of Lindsay and Teenie Talk tumbled together in each other's arms.  Well today this is what my bed looked like before I headed off to work.  From left, they are Chatty Cathy, Adam, grumpy little Anita, and Sally.

Cathy is a little miffed that I didn't share her on World Doll Day, so here she is now.  

She's pretty proud of that new dress, which came from CCandGDolls and is half of a set of two frocks.  The one one is blue.

Life has not been as kind to Sally, as she is now bald in addition to having a messed-up face.

Life is rarely kind to composition dolls, but Sally has aged the worst of all.  I look forward to getting her repaired, but I don't know when that'll be.

Just wanna warn y'all, more posts of this random variety may be in the works, as I arrange and rearrange my dolls, organize and disorganize their things, all that whatnot.  So if you're not a fan of how my dolls fall together on the bed, feel free to skip these.  I WILL have more reviews, but those posts take time.  Hopefully next week I'll have a full-scale review ready.

A quick post about the Creepy Babies

One of the local Wal-Marts was offering Garanimals separates for two bucks a piece, so I got some things for Tommy and Sally.

Sally's set is a bit too big, but nothing anyone would notice.  As a brief aside, I was tempted by a pair of baby-sized sunglasses that would've looked adorable on Sally...but they cost ten bucks.  That's more than I paid for the four pieces that make up these little outfits.  I don't know what significance that has, but for some reason it sticks out in my mind.

If you're a mama with very young children, or if you're into reborning baby dolls, you may want to try hitting up Wal-Mart.  These clothes are great, and a lot of the best little pieces are on sale.

Return of the Creepy Babies

I haven't thrown y'all a bone in awhile, so here's one to gnaw on.  New clothes for Tommy and Sally...again!

Sally's dress did not turn out well in this picture.  In real life it's mint green with a pink dog on the skirt.  It looks great with Sally's red hair.

How a single dolly lover celebrates Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day has never been a big affair for me.  I've always been single, so I'd usually spend the day in a mildly bitter mood, admiring Mama's flowers (from Daddy) and wondering why the popular kids at school bothered to send gifts to the high school for their sweethearts to flaunt.  If Cupid was lurking about, she certainly missed her shot with me.

Oh wait, Cupid doesn't work on normies anyway!  LOL, Monster High joke!  No hard feelings, though; I've matured since the dark days that were my adolescence.  Now instead of moping I try to think up something to keep myself occupied, and this year I decided to make a post about my dollies in their Valentine's Day finery.  Warning, though:  most of the clothes will simply be red.  I don't have a lot of dolly clothing with hearts printed on it.  That being said, this is All-Star Cami Basic, or simply "Cami," as I call her.  She's all bundled up and taking in the scenery.

Cami came from New York, so cold weather doesn't bother her much.  She looks like she likes her surroundings, in fact.  Her fuchsia coat pops against the snowy background, and it's the perfect color for Valentine's Day, an effect that I love.

Then there's my less-glamorous but equally loved baby dolls, Tommy and Sally.  One of my Facebook friends has a pair of dolls that she dresses to match the changing holidays, and I tend to do the same with these two.

This pic is more of a "just for the heck of it because they're so cute in their snowsuits" moment than a Valentine's Day moment.  Sally's suit has hearts on it so I guess it counts.  I dressed them in these snowsuits back around New Year's Day.  It was cold then, and it's been nothing but one long stretch of cold, snowy weather since then, so I just left the snowsuits on.  I've never been a huge advocate of winter, LOL.  Now for the Valentine's Day outfits!

Much better, Tommy.  LOL, I love Valentine's Day-themed clothing for babies.  Finding an appropriate outfit for Tommy was easy, believe it or not.  Normally it's hard to find cute, affordable clothes for baby boys, but this time it was easy!  Sally's outfit was the hard one; it's a Dollar Store special, but it works out fine.

From mildly-creepy, old-fashioned sweetness to modern snarkiness, here's Raquelle from the Life in the Dreamhouse line.

You may or may not remember from my Midge review that these first-wave LitD dolls come with two outfits.  Raquelle's just happens to be red.  Again, just a coincidence, but a fortuitous one.  Plus, Raquelle's dress has something that none of the other dolls' outfits does:  SPARKLES!!!

Yeah, yeah, I know that glitter is the herpes of the art world, but it's still fun in moderation.  Besides, in this case I think it fits Raquelle's personality!

Oh, you're a sly one, you are!

Also in the saucy raven-haired female department, there's Maci from the Bratz Style It! line.

Maci is wearing my failed attempt at a Barbie dress.  As you can see, it came out WAY too small for even the skinniest Barbie doll, but with some adjustments Maci can wear it quite well.  It's just a teensy bit big for her, but you'd never be able to tell it unless I told you!  LOL

Back on the lighter side, here's Ariel, one of the dolls that my friend Elizabeth sent me last October.  I remembered that one of the outfits she gave me hadn't been worn yet, which is a sin and a shame.  Since this dress DOES have hearts on it, today's the perfect day for a debut!

Yeah, yeah, I've heard folks say that redheads should never wear pink, but I think Ariel looks really cute in this.  It looks just like something a girl Ariel's age would wear.  And she looks cozy too, with those long socks!

Nice and toasty for this time of year!  Oh, as a little side note, Raquelle and Ariel have made fast friends due to their brassy personalities.

Singles party, anyone?

As a last little touch, I think it would be fitting to show you a pair of dolls that are romantically involved.  Or rather, THIS particular pair is.

These two lovebirds are Masaharu and Akiko, better known as the Japanese DOTW Barbie and Ken.  They married last April after a long courtship, and life's been rosy ever since.  Literally.

As a side note, check out Masaharu's face!  He's definitely NOT your run-of-the-mill Ken doll.

Okay, so photos can't do him justice.  You'd have to see this doll in person to catch all the little details that his sculpt has.

And that, ladies and germs, is how I spent this year's Valentine's Day.  Cheap, simple, fun, and colorful!  Now to dig out all my green outfits for St. Pat's!  Oh, and just a little warning:  the first one to pinch me for not wearing green gets their teeth knocked out.

How I spent New Years' Eve

Hello all.  I wish all my followers and casual readers a happy new year.  I spent the afternoon with the family, eating Mexican food, talking, and watching the Twilight Zone marathon (a twice-a-year tradition for my family).  We also got a visit from Sister's ex-boyfriend...while New Boyfriend was in the house!  Yeah...that was awkward, but we didn't let it spoil our fun.  I think he was more uncomfortable than any of us were!

Oh yes, in between all of that I accomplished some dolly-related tasks.  Tommy and Sally, my two beat-up old composition dolls, also got in on the action.  I bought them some new pj's and they rang in the new year with me, right here on the couch.

Those are pajamas for human babies, by the way.  Both wear clothes sized from newborn up to six months, though Sally's pajamas are clearly too big.  I couldn't resist these, though; they both have a winter theme and might not be reintroduced next winter, so I grabbed 'em.  I also bought Sally a new dress, but I'm going to wait until Tommy has a new outfit as well.  It's so hard to find cute clothes for baby boys, though!!!  I paid a visit to Target three days ago and looked at the baby clothes there; they have a great selection for both boys and girls, but they wanted twenty bucks for a boy's sweater set!  I could buy three of these pajama sets at Wal-Mart for that price!  That sweater set was cute, though...cute enough that I might bite the bullet and get it for him anyway.

In addition to palling around with a pair of sixty-some-odd-year-old babies, I also made my first big doll-related purchase.  Up until now the most I paid for a doll was sixty dollars (she was a composition baby like Sally and Tommy, but comes in a full christening gown).  Not anymore.  Today I created a PayPal account and splurged.  This is who I got:

This is Ana Ming, a Carpatina doll.  Carpatina dolls are eighteen inches tall like American Girls, My Generation dolls, and Madame Alexander My Life dolls, but they are slimmer than any of those.  Miss Emily owns Erin, another of these dolls, and she highly rated both the doll and the clothes.  Or at least, she rated the Guinevere outfit highly.  The addition of steampunk-themed clothing sealed the deal for me (I dabble in the steampunk subculture and don't yet have a steampunk-themed doll), so in addition to Ana Ming I purchased the Baker Street dress and accessories, plus two other dresses that echo Ana Ming's oriental heritage.  They should be here in five to eight days, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.  It's a bad thing because I'm getting my left eye re-zapped on Friday, and Ana Ming could get here as early as next Monday (possibly even Saturday, but I'm not holding my breath for that one).  Eyes take awhile to heal after LASIK procedures, so cutting Ana Ming's box open may be a real trip.  However, the wait will also be a good thing because it gives me something to look forward to.  It'll also liven the month up; January, which comes on the heels of holiday-filled December, is usually pretty boring.  Nothing but a long swath of school and frigid weather.  Hmmm...if Ana Ming pleases me as much as I think she will, then I might make it a tradition to splurge on a fairly-expensive doll every New Years' Eve.

So, with that being said, I'll see you in five to eight days, possibly shorter if something really exciting happens, possibly longer if Ana Ming is somehow delayed.  I wish all of you a happy new year.  May God shower you with blessings, good health, and good fortune.
