Decisions, decisions

C'mon, if y'all saw the forecast then you probably knew I'd post tonight.  The weather is once again very bad, and Ryan Hall says the Missouri storms are in the best environment for tornadoes.  Here's what the radar looks like, without warnings and with.
Under normal circumstances the southernmost storm would be what's bothering me, but these storms have some southern motion in them, and that storm is dipping into Arkansas.  No, the one near Poplar Bluff is the one I'm giving the side eye.  If it keeps hooking south then it'll hit us.

As always, I spent a fair amount of time deciding who to grab, since I've got plenty of nice dolls.  Some are gifts, some are one of a kind, and some I just love.  In the end I've chosen to pack light tonight, just The Doll Who Shall Not Be Named and Rita Cheryl.
I may pick someone else at random if I need to run for it.  Mia is small enuff...no, Rita Cheryl says she'll go Talky Tina on me if I don't bring Ginger.
I understand, Rita Cheryl.  I'm worried about my cats; they panic if they're caged, and I simply can't chase down six cats in the six-to-ten minutes of lead time that a tornado might give.  My dogs, on the other hand...they have a nice cage.

As to my friends in Ohio, y'all keep a sharp lookout as y'all might get hit by a squall line.  Squall lines produce nasty straight winds and can do some serious damage.   Love y'all!

Stormy love,

So random, November/December '25

Happy New Year, ladies and germs!  Hold up, I said that LAST New Year.  Technically it's not the new year yet, but I plan on taking off from blogging tomorrow, so...yeah.  I don't know about y'all, but for me I hope for two things:

A) a spring that isn't as crazy as the last one, and
B) some sort of resolution to my health woes.

Seriously, I don't want to run in a marathon, but being able to take my dogs outside without maneuvering a walker would be great.  Carrying my dolls to the playground across the street for pictures would be amazing.  And a simple walk around the block, like Grandma did with me when I was little!  Oh, that would be the best thing in the world.  When Uncle From St. Louis took me he'd always hold me up and let me touch one of the stop signs (I had a thing for stop signs when I was small).  As for the spring, well...this post is the beginning of the saga.  Mama, Clio Teresa, and me, crammed into our bathroom around midnight with Ryan Hall, KFVS, and KAIT all streaming on our phones and tablets.  Last spring wasn't the worst I've ever seen; that title still goes to 2011, with 1999 being a close second.  I hope to the good Lord we never see another spring like those.  But last March and April were no picnic.

All that said, November got off the a slow start for photography.  I didn't take my first random pic until November 14th.
I'd just spent half an hour putting my dolls back in their places after Tommy (my problem cat) knocked a bunch of them from hell to breakfast.  Primrose Jessalyn looked the way I felt:  hot, winded, and overwhelmed.

November was a slow month, period, and it was the 28th before I had anything worth photographing again.  Snow was in the forecast for my neck of the woods, and I got a handful of my dolls out of their warm weather garb and into something more substantial.  Here's Kiara and Kyle...
...and here's Rowena Skylar.
Ah, snow.  So beautiful, so infuriating.  It ended up being a cold rain and a sharp wind that time, the kind of weather that'll "make you good and sick," as Mama put it when my sister and I were young.  The snow came on December 2nd.

I made up for lost time on November 30th.  Tommy had knocked My Newborn Nancy reeling, so I picked her up and had a little one-on-one time.
I also got a cute picture of Kiara, lying in my lap.
Usually Kiara sits beside me on the couch, but on that particular day Lily had her spot.
When Lily picks a spot, it's hers for at least an hour.  Or until Tommy chases her off.  I love Tommy, but he can be a tremendous a$$ at times.  If he's not slapping my dolls around he's picking on Lily, and Lily is no spring chicken anymore.  She turned nine in late July, and she growls if I try to pick her up so I think she has arthritis.  I don't want any of my animals bullied, including Tommy, but my oldest two, Callie and Lily, are especially off limits.

December 1st.  It was cold and wet, and I'd fished the last of Alice's egg sacs out of what was left of her web (Alice has been MIA and presumed dead since early November).  Lagoona Blue saw it and decided to pay tribute to her freaky fab comrade.
Don't worry, it's empty!  I wouldn't be caught dead bringing a live black widow egg sac into the house.  Y'all can see how big Alice's sacs were, though.  Lagoona could use it as a baseball if she wanted.

December 2nd.  I put Ayla Diamond in her Christmas dress.
I never would've dreamed that such a tiny doll could be so satisfying to clothe!  I think the Etsy shop is AKMysticMoose; they're a good place to go to if you have a My Mini Baby that you want to dress up.

December 4th.  The temperature never got above freezing that day, and there was a sharp north wind.  Sour Apple Mia and Ilaria made the best of it, though Ilaria's shoeless feet made ME cringe.  No lie, the wind was like a bone saw that day.
What a pair!  Spanish and Italian, Modern and vintage, stylized and somewhat realistic, goofy hair and natural hair.  I do kinda wish Furga dolls smelled like vanilla like Nines d'Onil dolls do, but

A)  Can't have everything, and
B)  Not everyone can handle that scent.  It's not overpowering, but it IS noticeable.

December 6th, Failbook memory from twelve years before.  Head shot of Sabrina.
Sabrina has a humorous backstory.  She belonged to a lady who was downsizing her rather large collection.  The collection had some beautiful stuff, including a couple'a Annette Himstedt dolls (I love those), but Sabrina was the one I really flipped out for.  The dolls were being listed on eBay, and Mama, who was just as smitten with Sabrina as I was, engaged in a no-holds-barred bidding war against some dame from Russia.  We see who won, LOL.

Also December 6th, present day.  Ilaria flew solo.
I was trying to give Ilaria something of a glow-up, including shoes, socks, and the new brooch, seen above.  Well...the new footwear didn't fit.  Ilaria has bigger feet than Wellie Wishers, so she's still unshod.  The brooch works well, though.

December 9th.  Andra had been knocked off her shelf (by that darn Tommy) for the third time in a week.
"Why me???" she seems to be saying.  Theta looks like she finds it amusing, even though she too has hit the ground a few times due to cats...or Mama or me klutzing around.

That same evening two of my Cabbies got some bright new dresses.  Christmas lights were few and far between here in Malden this year, but my girls made up for it a bit.
I chose my two golden girls, Candela Laura and Beryl June, to model these.  Thanks, Mama!  You always find cute stuff for my dolls to wear, and I appreciate it.

December 10th.  I had Lena out in preparation for her inclusion in the post about Grandma's Marshmallow Babies, and I thought she and Candela Laura looked cute together.
It's too bad Mama and I can't find cute clothes in Lena's size, because the purple in Candela's dress makes Lena's eyes pop.  I need to bust out my sewing machine and start taking measurements.

December 12th.  This one was truly spur of the moment.
I was standing up to go to bed (not a pleasant experience), and I'd placed Li'l Imp between Candela Laura and Ilaria.  This is the result:  the green-eyed freckle faces are mugging for the camera, and Ilaria is channeling Alfred Hitchcock.

December 15th.  I'd just gotten back from the library's Christmas party and I was ready for a nap, but I did pause to get a couple'a cute pairs (while I was straightening up yet another of Tommy's messes).  These two are my Love 'n' Care Babies, Diamond Estelle and Alice Helene...
...and these are two of my Hopscotch Hill School dolls, Gwen and Hallie.
I have Skylar and Logan too, but I haven't moved them yet.

These next images are from a post that never made it off the ground.  December 16th.  Two dolls arrived in the mail, and this is the first glimpse I got of Dollikin (a large Uneeda doll).  Good thing Dollikin is jointed to the hilt, but she still looked like she'd been hogtied and thrown off a cliff.
Here, Dollikin and her lilac-haired travel companion channel Barnes and Barnes.
Fish heads, fish heads...LOL, shortly after this Dollikin's lower elastic gave way and her legs/butt fell off.  Oh, the horror!
Good thing I know how to fix her, but what a drag, just the same!  The doll with purple hair has nothing to wear, but I was able to give her some shoes and socks, at least.
These are the shoes and socks that I'd intended for Ilaria.  Though this new girl is the bigger doll her feet are smaller than Ilaria's.  She can thus wear Wellie Wisher socks and shoes if the socks aren't too thick, but not the clothes.  I've chosen the name "Ultraviolet" for this doll, by the way, after one of Andy Warhol's crazy comrades.  Ultraviolet's lip paint is in rough shape, but I can fix that.
I like how Ultraviolet retains a bit of class despite being nekkid and a little roughed up.  She's still got her gold cord around her neck, and a similar cord holding her ponytail in place.  She reminds me of one of my bisque dolls, Elfriede, who came with a silk ribbon tied around her neck.  I think Ultraviolet might be a Migliorati clone, as her body has a similar shape to this doll.

December 19th.  Another of those pictures I caught as I was getting a for work.
Ernest John, of course, but this time he's got Pineberry with him.  Kiara can also be seen on the far left.

December 21st.  I was in a bad mood all weekend, after altercations with Coworker A and with Uncle Man-Child the day before.  The quarrel with Coworker A was my fault, and the one with the overgrown child was his.  You don't yell at my mama and pets without catching hell, especially when my mama pays your bills.  Anyway, I was still aggravated the next day, and then Tommy and Vanessa made a cute photo op.
Y'all can also see some of Tommy's mess in the background.  That's not why Uncle Man-Child yelled at my critters, by the way.  A mess IS grounds for anger, but it's not why he lost it.  He's really been trying my patience lately.

Later that same evening I caught Aimee and Lori like this.
They'll be helping out with a review soon, if I can get my hip to cooperate.  The review is scheduled for after the first of the year.

December 22nd.  I noted on Failbook that this Christmas season was one of the most bah-humbuggy I'd ever had.  NO ONE was in the spirit!  Great time to play Dolly Dress Shuffle.
From left, Silver Bird, Jettivee, and Rita Cheryl.  And yes, it was warm enuff to traipse around in sandals (like Jettivee) or without shoes (like Rita Cheryl).  These are what the temperatures looked like last week.
I've taken to calling winter warm snaps "Mayfield winters," for reasons that are obvious to anyone who lives in the area.  The temperatures bottomed out not long after.

December 23rd, I got a very small dolly.
She's one of those dime-a-dozen Hong Kong dolls, one of those that has no name or company.  Y'all might remember how I like these.  I haven't thought of a name for this one yet, but I love her smug little face, and especially her eyes.  A couple'a my Failbook friends noticed the eyes too.

December 28th.  Lorifina sits pretty on one of the family Christmas presents.
Heck, Lori might need a foot warmer herself, cold as it got after Christmas.

And that, ladies and germs, concludes my year!  2025 is not a year that I'll look back on with a smile.  Indeed, this has been one of the worst years I've had, with the pain and the medical woes and several depressed spells.  Granted, the year could've been a lot worse; no one I loved died or got diagnosed with some terminal illness, no one I loved suffered any property damage when the tornadoes hit, and my animals are all safe and well with me.   But 2025 was still was no walk in the park.  Lord willing, 2026 will be better.

Love and God bless,

Autumn's flora and fauna, and Real Baby

It's been another of those weeks.  Mama's oldest dog Lucy died at the beginning of the month, and after that the rest collapsed like a house of cards.  The last cat, Vladimir went, and then Hulk went, and finally our parvo survivor Molly died.  We loved them all, but Molly was extra special and we're taking her death hard.  Last evening when I went out to bury her I discovered a large patch of mushrooms in my own soon-to-be-former front yard.  These two are growing appropriately where I buried Edgar last November
The rest are growing not in a ring, but in a large cluster like so.
I took a couple'a pictures of specimens that attracted my eye, like these...
...and these...
...AND these!
There was a time when my bratty kid self would've kicked these over just for the helluvit.  I was so rotten back then!

Meanwhile, my sister has more time on her hands thanks to a new boss, and she sent us pictures of this spider that lives near her apartment.
My sister says the spider has glutted herself on cicadas and is thus now the size of a small grape.  In case any of y'all are wondering, that IS a black widow.  See the red on her butt?
Black widows are fairly common in both Fayetteville and Malden, but they're shy and prefer to hide from humans.  Indeed, in all my years of turning over rocks to look at creepy crawlies, I've run into exactly two black widow spiders, and Daddy had to kill one of them because she was where our cats liked to play.  My sister, on the other hand...well, she's not as afraid of spiders as I once was, and she actively hunts for these.  She's found them everywhere she's lived except for Edmonton, Alberta, and she even was roommates with one while living in Vermont.  Alas, the Vermont widow had to go to Spider Heaven, because Sister's cat wouldn't quit pestering it.  That cat is such a dolt.  A loved and pretty dolt, but a dolt.

As for me, I washed my hands and settled in with Geneva, my Real Baby.  She got a new poncho yesterday.  It's still too warm for a coat, but I threw it on her anyway.
The poncho was advertised for Cabbage Patch Kids, but it feels like it's made of real wool and it's (possibly) handmade.  I promptly declared it too good for Beryl June and company, thus why Geneva is wearing it.  Geneva needed a coat anyway.  For the record, she's still wearing Quacky Cords, LOL.  I  like that outfit so much that I've left her in it.

Sigh...okay, I feel better.  I hope all is well with y'all.  I know that for at least one reader spring is just around the corner rather than fall.

Much love,

Adric, the golden star

Or in this case, the golden furball!

In a bizarre repeat of Tommy and Lancelot's adoption, I went out late last night and heard "mew, mew, mew" coming from across the street.  This time instead of actively searching, I just stood in my yard and yelled "Here kitty, kitty, kitty!"  My efforts were almost instantly rewarded, as this yellow goober came running across the street.  He didn't try to climb my leg like Tommy did, but he acted like he'd have liked to.  Like Tommy, he's about half-grown.

The last time I had kittens I named them after Game of Thrones characters (Eddard/Sansa and Arya) or songs (Mustang Sally), and they all promptly died.  This time I went the Doctor Who route, naming my young rascal after one of the Doctor's more obnoxious comrades (and he's had plenty of those, LOL).  The real Adric ended up dying due to his own know-it-all behavior, so I hope his namesake won't end up the same way.  So far my little Adric appears healthy, but he is a pest, LOL.  I think I named him well.
Yes, shred my old pajamas.  Be my guest.  Like Mustang Sally, Adric came from a family down the street that apparently doesn't believe in spaying and neutering.   Seriously, there's ALWAYS kittens there.  Last time I counted there were four of them:  one black, one calico, one dilute calico, and this yellow chap that roamed a bit too far from home.  Since he came from the same house as Sally I figure Adric is either her younger brother or cousin, and I suspect that he may be related to Tommy as well since Tommy and Sally were so much alike.  Having previously been an outside cat Adric has a lot of spunk, but he also has been socialized.  His favorite things to do are tackle my arm and purr while digging his claws in.  Ouchie...LOL.

Welcome home, Adric.  Please stay healthy.  Don't leave me like Sally did!

Love and purrs,

Laverne, Shirley, Robyn, and Joss

Welcome to my newest little friends!

My best friend Brittany needed rid of them, so I took them off her hands.  The green one is Laverne, the blue one is Shirley, and they have their own distinct little personalities, just like their namesakes do.  Laverne is sassy and likes to bicker, while Shirley prefers to avoid conflict.  They both have healthy sets of lungs, and neither of them act afraid of my cats.  Keep in mind that I have eight cats, and the youngest three (Tommy, Bobbie, and Sir Lancelot) would love to get to know their new housemates.  They even sleep next to the cage.

I don't leave the birds alone while I'm at work, but sometimes when I'm at home one of the cats will climb on top of the cage.  This hasn't caused any harm to the cage and the birds barely seem to notice (they lived with cats at their old home).  I don't allow the cats to make a habit of this, though.

In dolly news, Miss Emily sold another doll.  Or rather, one of her reviews enticed me to buy another doll that I needed like a hole in the head.  LOL, just about every doll that she reviews, I've gotta see for meself.  Robyn is an I'm a Girly doll, and she's on the left.  The lass on the right is none other than Joss Kendrick.

I'm a Girly is a Swiss bunch that is designed by "Kids4Kids," literally.  The line is big in Europe and the U.K., but apparently they've yet to gain a foothold here in the States for reasons I can't quite put my finger on...yeah I can, LOL.  Target and Amazon carry the dolls here in the U.S., meaning that Robyn and her friends have to compete with Our Generation in addition to American Girl and My Life.  The line has its naysayers, but don't all doll lines have their naysayers?  Anywho, as insinuated in the above picture Robyn and Joss are already pretty thick.  Robyn doesn't speak sign language yet, but Joss can talk to her aloud and can read lips so it's all good.  According to her online bio Robyn is an explorer who likes to spend time outside, and she wears the right shoes for the occasion.  Dig these!

Clear shoes beg for trippy socks, so that's exactly what I did.

Robyn can't wear all AG clothes (she's too slim to wear Joss's shorts, for example), but shoes and socks can be done, as can some other pieces.  Regarding the face, all of the I'm a Girly dolls have either brown or blue eyes (no green darn it), with Robyn being in the brown club.  Her eyes are more amber than brown, though.

Robyn is my third redhead in this size after Felicity and Reagan, and they've all got different eyes.  Wait a minute...does Crissy count?  She's close in height to the American Girls and she's got red hair.  Okay, I've got four dolls in this size with red hair, and they ALL have different eyes.  Felicity has green eyes, Reagan's eyes are blue-gray (and wonky, I'm just now noticing), Crissy has very dark brown eyes, and Robyn's eyes are amber.  Pardon the crud in Crissy's eyes; they've developed some mold that I'll need to deal with after taking her closeup.

For that matter, their hair is different too.  Crissy and Felicity tie for the most realistic shade, Reagan has...well, carrot-colored hair, and Robyn's is that lovely dark shade that I don't get to see too often.

Reagan's hair is the softest, Felicity's needs a boil wash, Crissy's grows, and Robyn's can come off.  Yes, Robyn and her I'm a Girly companions wear wigs that can be switched around.  For comparison, I'm a Girly's smaller companions, entitled "I'm a Wow," have rooted hair that changes color under sunlight.  Robyn's wig ties on.  Wait a minute...TIES ON???  Yep, here's the tie.

This renders high ponytails out of the question, but it works pretty well.  The tie fits into a sizeable groove on the doll's head, and since Robyn's wig cap is black her pate is sheathed in plastic.

Reminds me of My Way Kids and their ill-fitting pates.  Speaking of, Robyn can apparently share wigs with My Way Kids and American Girls, so let's test it.  Here she and My Way Kid Leah have swapped wigs.  I already know that Leah looks nice as a redhead, but I've never tried this shade of red on her before.

Mmmm, I'm not feeling Leah's wig on Robyn.  Maybe a different style might do, but I'm just not feeling it.  The cap doesn't fit Robyn very well either; if you look closely at the hairline you can see the groove in Robyn's head peeking out.
Robyn's dark red wig fits Leah like a glove, and I love the color on her.  As with Leah's other red wig, I might braid this if Leah uses it again.

Now it's Justine-Marie's turn.

I'd always wanted to know how Justine-Marie would look as a redhead, and now I know.  I don't think it suits her.  Or rather, the style doesn't suit her.  Justine-Marie is one of those types that was born to wear a bob.

Robyn, on the other hand...she actually looks good in Justine-Marie's wig.  She looks way better than I thought she would.  My mom thinks the exact opposite, LOL; she likes Robyn's wig on Justine-Marie, but not the other way around.

Interestingly, Robyn is the only I'm a Girly with bangs.  Even these dolls' extra wigs don't come with bangs.  I love, love, LOVE that blue wig, by the way; if I can find that then Robyn and Lark can pal around together.  Not that they can't anyway, but having two with blue hair would be cute.  Blue would also look striking against Robyn's orange romper.  Some people would call the colors clashing, but I prefer to use the artistic term, "complimentary."  Shame that Robyn couldn't have Lola's purple wig with a yellow romper; yellow and purple has always been my favorite of the complimentary pairs.  Lola was almost my choice over Robyn due to that silvery purple wig, by the way, but I don't care as much for Lola's outfit or her shocking blue eyes.

I wanna skip over to Joss now and show y'all her hair.  It wasn't in its original style when she got here, and when I was finger-combing the fibers for the first time I found several tiny braids that someone had put into her hair.  I didn't like finding those since they made more tangles, but they looked cute and I'll probably put some more in after I've had Joss awhile.  But my main point is that this color is not like anything I have in my American Girl collection.  For example, here's three of my brown-haired girls, Samantha (left), Molly (center), and Zoe (JLY #26)...

...and my other three, Amanda (JLY #16, left), Luciana (center), and Joss.  In the pictures Luciana and Amanda appear to have similar hair, but IRL Luciana has a slight ruddy cast to her hair and Amanda's has a bit of a silver sheen.  Neither of them have hair like Joss.

Oh yes, and Lindsey.  Her hair has a subtle red cast to it, which I touched on in this post about Girls of the Year.

I own four Girls of the Year now, and they've all got special wigs, either in terms of length or of color, or both.  Makes me wonder if I spoke too soon when I derided Lanie and McKenna as "boring."  I know I had to eat my words when I met Isabelle for the first time.

Just for the heckuvit, here's how Joss's hair compares to Robyn's.  The colors are nothing alike, but they're both shiny and eye-catching.  If you're a brunette and have ever hated your hair (like I have in the past), take a note from Joss.  Even brown hair can be beautiful.

I want to go back to eyes for a minute.  I'm a Girly eyes are sometimes bad about degrading like My Twinn eyes.  One of Miss Emily's I'm a Girly dolls came with her eyes strangely fogged up, kinda like they'd been exposed to heat or something of that stripe.  Robyn's eyes appear to be okay for now, but I'll be keeping a wary eye on them no less.  A wary eye on eyes...Lordy, I didn't mean to make that joke!  But seriously, I've been watching doll eyes more closely than ever, because guess what?  I saw someone's new Gwynn Tan doll, not even two months old...and her eyes had turned LILAC!!!  A Wellie Wisher with eyes that turned!  Granted, the doll had apparently been a window display and thus exposed to sunlight, but still!  American Girl is supposed to be better than that!  Right, Joss?

Right.  I don't think Joss will ever have to worry about eye problems, but never say never.  Even now the folks at American Girl warn that their dolls' eyes can turn silver with time, especially if they get wet, and silver eye shows the most in dolls with dark eyes, like Joss.

Yep, another brown-eyed American Girl doll for me.  That makes...how many?  Lemme see...Amanda, Denise, Julie, Kyle, Kailey, Luciana, Samantha, Silver Bird, Zoe, and Z.  Two of them (Amanda and Silver Bird) have varying degrees of silver eye.  Add Joss to the mix and that makes eleven (her eyes are NOT silver and I plan on keeping it that way).  So yeah, Joss's eyes aren't as unique as the eyes of some of my dolls, and they're not as bright (unusual?) as Robyn's.  Her shoes aren't as fun as Robyn's either.  Indeed, they were a pain in the posterior to get on.  But then again, I'm always griping about Julie's and Kailey's shoes constantly falling off.  Joss's shoes fit pretty tight around the ankles so they won't be falling off.

At some point during this past week I had Joss and Robyn together with Rita Cheryl, one of my darker dolls, and I noticed the difference in their vinyl tone.  Robyn is fair (with freckles!), Joss has a sun-kissed shade, and Rita Cheryl is one of AG's medium tones.

I'm gonna set Robyn aside again and look a little closer at Joss, since she's supposed to be fair-skinned but doesn't really look the part.  Most of my fair-skinned dolls are pretty old and have yellowed or faded or God-knows-what, but Courtney still looks pretty good.  I'll throw in Z too, since the wiki claims she's fair-skinned.

Am I seeing things, or are all three of them different?  My mom can't tell the difference, and indeed it may be my imagination (once again) running away with me, but I think their vinyl is subtly different in color.  Not a huge deal really, since we all come in a wide array of skin tones, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

That's about all I have to say for either of these gals.  Joss is an American Girl, and usually if you've seen one of those you've seen 'em all.  Indeed, I knew what to expect with Joss, as she was well-photographed and had clearly visible hair and eyes.  She had no flaws, so there were no surprises, good or bad.  I knew I'd like Joss.  Robyn was more risky.  Her eBay listing showed only a stock photo, and I knew from Miss Emily's review that these dolls could have bad eyes.  I also wasn't sure how her angular face would photograph, but Robyn turned out to be a delightful surprise.  She photographs well, her eyes are clear, and she's just a fun doll to own.  For reasons neither Miss Emily or I have been able to establish these dolls are relatively cheap...well some characters are.  Robyn and Lucy are easy to obtain, for example, but Mia is not for some reason.  Either way Robyn was well worth the twenty bucks plus shipping and handling that I spent on her.  Oh, and just for the heckuvit, her romper glows under my porchlight.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get a black light for my porch.  I've always enjoyed that kind of thing.  No, this particular bulb isn't a black light, but with the way it reacts to certain materials it might as well be.

Cheers,
RagingMoon1987
