A year with my Survivor

WARNING:  I have a lot to say about today's doll (mostly in pictures, LOL) so this post is gonna be a long one.  Pop in some eyedrops, grab some Cheez-Its (get your own box), and get cozy.

I thought I'd never be fortunate enuff to own a Smart Doll.  I've been admiring these dolls ever since 2018, when violet-eyed, cocoa-skinned Unity was a new thing.  The final price tag was always the deterrent for me; the most basic Smart Dolls are over four hundred dollars, and those super-tempting add-ons drive up the price quite a bit.  However, after taxes came back last year Mama gave me the go-ahead and after six years of ogling, I bought my Smart Doll.  Survivor is a burn victim, hence her name, and today marks a year since her arrival!  I've chosen to name her "Yuka," after a character from Elfen Lied.  Her surname is one I picked from a list of uncommon Japanese surnames, Takanashi.  Thus, Yuka Takanashi!
This is The Doll That Shall Not Be Named, the doll that was riding in the carrying case during tornado scares, the doll that got the clothing hauls last October and last December.  This is her!  Christa knows I have her since we're friends on Failbook and on Instagram, but otherwise I tried to keep Yuka under wraps until now.

Now!  One of the many things that I love about Smart Dolls is that they embrace the concept of wabi-sabi.  My Cabbage Patch friends on Failbook really liked learning that term, by the way.  Wabi-sabi is a Japanese term that means "beauty through imperfection," and in the case of the Smart Dolls, small imperfections are to be expected since parts of their bodies are vinyl and are molded in a special way that can accumulate tiny flecks of debris and hardened vinyl over time.  Indeed, Danny Choo advises that one NOT purchase a Smart Doll if they can't handle lines or bubbles or other small defects in the vinyl, or other flaws like a face that's somewhat asymmetrical.  Four hundred-plus bucks and some change IS a lot of money to sink, especially on a doll, so there should be no second guessing.  That said, some of these dolls take wabi-sabi about three steps further with visible scars (Survivor, Time and Tide), vitiligo/birthmarks (Valiant, Liberty), zits (Pride), or cleft palate (Foundation).  Poor Pride, I remember what it was like to battle zits, and Mr. Choo does too; he admits that he's got scars from his teenage acne.  Pride actually has little indentations molded into her face to make her zits more realistic, by the way, which is going above and beyond!  Anyway, Mr. Choo notes at the bottom of Survivor's listing that Valiant and Liberty were Smart Doll's poorest sellers, and he predicted that Survivor would sell poorly too.  Indeed, I rarely see owner pictures of Smart Dolls like this; the Survivor dolls I usually see are the marbled ones, which I'll explain below.  As y'all can see, Survivor is scarred on her face, upper right arm, and upper right chest.
"Yep!"

My grandmother was a burn survivor herself, and she was self-conscious about her scars, so Survivor kinda hits close to home for me.  There was another version of Survivor that had...more healed-looking burns, shall we say, and her vinyl (the aforementioned "marble" vinyl) was really beautiful.  I think I read somewhere that the marble vinyl was hard to produce and that that was why that version of Survivor isn't available anymore.  No worries, my doll is fine.  Indeed, I've looked at hundreds of pictures of other people's Smart Dolls over the past year, and my reaction has always been the same:  "My Yuka is prettier than their doll!"  LOL, I understand a bit now how mamas feel about their kids...good mamas, anyway.  Your kid is always the best looking, even when they're not.

Now...all that said, let's turn back the clock exactly one year.  I'm not going to review Yuka since Miss Emily has already reviewed a Smart Doll of her own, and since Survivor has very little in the way of negative qualities.  I'm just going to share images that I've taken of her over the year and offer commentary as I go.  For the record though, this is how Smart Dolls are packaged:  in a medium-sized cardboard box with the logos on the side.  Kinda like Luts packaging; if you're in the ball-jointed doll hobby then you know what to look for.
Inside the box is a shopping bag that looks like an eye chart.  "Be seen with Smart Doll," it says, and that sounds like a good idea.
It should be known that a lot of the items from Smart Doll have orange incorporated somewhere, and there's a good reason for this.  The inaugural Smart Doll and the brand's mascot is a cute pet named Mirai Suenaga, and she loves the color orange.  I suspect that Danny Choo does too, which is good because orange is kinda an unsung hero in the color world.  When I ask people what their favorite color is, orange is not an answer I often hear.  So that's the reasoning behind the touches of orange here and there, and indeed, when I peeked into the bag I could see that the top of Yuka's head is orange.
Yuka was wrapped in bubble wrap and plastic, but I went for that box first.  It was about the size of an average shoebox and contained Yuka's extra bits.
Said extra bits consisted of Yuka's wig, a postcard-style leaflet with some of the other Smart Dolls, and an extra package of hands.  The hands jacked the cost up a bit, but its worth it for peace sign and thumbs up hands.
When I saw Survivor's stock pictures I was at a loss for description on her hair color.  It's brown, yes, but not mouse brown like mine.  The package says "cocoa," and that's pretty fitting.
Once upon a time the postcard would've had a picture of Mirai on it, but these girls are not Mirai.  Mirai is fair-skinned with light brown hair, and she's anime style.  These four girls are all semi-real style.
<pauses to look>  According to the Smart Doll site, the girls on the top row are Liberty (pear body) and Survivor herself, while the ones on the bottom row are Pride and Courage (pear body).  Pride and Courage are both modelling the sold-separately insulin pumps, Pride is missing an arm, and Courage appears to be holding an inhaler.  I kinda wish Foundation had been included, as she's the one with the cleft lip and I like her a lot.  I almost chose her instead of Survivor, but unlike Survivor Foundation appears to be a popular choice.  I've even seen her used as an Etsy model a couple'a times.  That said, Survivor is considered part of Smart Doll's "main cast," a character who will be in rotation for quite some time, albeit with tweaks here and there.  That means that Survivor's evolution will be interesting to see.

Now the back of the postcard...that's where things get interesting, as that's where the care guide is.  Look at some of these thou-shalt-nots!
Apparently Smart Dolls are shy and can't hold their breath for more than five seconds due to small lungs, they prefer NOT to fly in the luggage department, they are not edible, and they should not be picked up by their heads or fed after midnight.  No problem with the luggage bit; if I ever fly I want Yuka on my lap so people will ask stupid questions...but then again, I actually hate stupid questions.  Uncle Man-Child asks at least three every evening and that gets irksome.  Anyway, the thou-shalt-nots are pretty basic, stuff that I should have no problem following...for the most part.  It's hard not to stare Yuka in the eye since she's got pretty eyes.  A little crossed, but pretty nonetheless.

Oops, I forgot to show y'all the stand!  It's made of metal and telescopes in on itself like the antennas of old-school portable phones (like the one Mama broke when I was seven).
Seriously, all Mama was trying to do was push the antenna in on itself after completing a call, and it snapped in half.  The look on her face was priceless, by the way.  I doubt Yuka's stand will do that as the metal feels more robust, though I'm still being careful.  This orange bit at the end is articulated and pops into a socket in the small of Yuka's back,
Doesn't sound like much, but the stand actually is a big help.  Y'all will be able to see it in action in some images.  The stand can be hidden behind Yuka's leg, but I don't mind if it shows since lots of dolls need a stand anyway.

Finally, here was my first glimpse of Yuka herself.  True to Danny's words she was initially a little ill at ease, but upon being told how pretty she was she warmed up.
Regarding nitty-gritties, Yuka has cinnamon skin, the classic body shape, the G07 head, and as far as I know her internal frame is Evolve variant v6.1.0.  She thus has a "cradle" holding her eyes in place in addition to the usual putty.  Her eyes are (I think) 16 millimeters.
Instead of being strung, Smart Dolls have a frame that allows them to pose.  At the same time their heads do open up, mainly to allow for eyes to be changed or repositioned.  The headcaps are a little softer than the rest of the body, probably to make removal easier, and I like pressing on Yuka's headcap because of that.  I knew ahead of time that Yuka's headcap would be orange (Miss Emily's doll had a fleshtone pate), but it was still kinda weird to see in person.  G07 is molded on the back of Yuka's head, in case I ever forget what head she's got.
The wig will cover the orange, so it's not a big deal.  The wigs are difficult to put on, by the way, much more so than your average ball-jointed doll, but there's a reason for this.  Danny Choo states that he designed the wigs to be tight because he didn't want his dolls' wigs blowing away and landing in somebody's ice cream (those are his exact words), and indeed Yuka's wig is going nowhere.  She can even be upside-down without worrying about her wig landing in somebody's ice cream.
Now I'm hungry for ice cream, LOL.  Since it was May when Yuka arrived it was warm enuff for her to strike a few poses in her skivvies.  Default Smart Doll skivvies come in multiple colors, with my doll's stuff being dark navy with orange hems.  That "defect" on the bra is a loose thread.
With Smart Doll, the future is in your hands!  Neither Yuka nor I wanted her to stay unclothed for long, no matter how nice those undergarments, so I put her in clothes that fit both our trippy little personalities:  this funny-looking t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans.  Yuka likes red and I like blue, so we met in the middle.  Yuka's first ensemble is fully Etsy, by the way, as is most of her wardrobe (spoilers).  Smart Doll does offer clothing pieces for their dolls, but like the dolls themselves, the clothes are pricey.  Thus the glut of Etsy stuff.  The shirt is one of many I've bought from SakuraxMushiSHOP, and the jeans are from SugarShambles.
This little necklace came from Fatiao, and the message on it rings true for all Smart Dolls.
Cute as she looked, Yuka was tired from traveling and being jostled around.  She promptly crashed on the couch, and I promptly surprised her with another welcome-home present.
One of those horseshoe pillows like people use in cars and airplanes.  It's got unicorns on it.
Ahhhh, reminds me of my Lisa Frank days!  My favorite folder had a carousel with unicorns on it like this.  Etsy shop is dollsofmine.

Before that first week was out I'd already changed Yuka's top once.  The Etsy shop is DollLuvrsDesign, and the proprietor is an absolute doll herself.  She sent me another blouse for free when I bought this.
Chill, it's only chaos!  Likely with a Smart Doll living in Casa Pizarro the chaos level will go up.  Case in point.
HEYYYY!!!  What the sam-hill are you doing???
"Nothing..."

Yuka admitted later that she was going for leftover cheesecake, which we did indeed have as a treat for Mother's Day.  It was 12:30 a.m. when I caught her going after it.  Smart Dolls are never supposed to be fed after midnight, and it was a full moon on top of that.  Yuka didn't pull anymore crazy stunts that night, but only because I watched her like a hawk.

May 19th, shortly before all hell broke loose in Fayetteville
It's an unusual hat, from Etsy seller CherrYen.  Yuka declared it good enuff to wear with her chaos shirt.

May 28th.  Yuka and I were waiting for Jigglypuff shoes, and the wait was a long one indeed.  I had this outfit put together several weeks in advance, but until the shoes came Yuka was roaming around in her cute striped socks.
While she waited I introduced Yuka to the joys of half and half.
Half lemonade, half tea, just like one of my preachers loved.
Happy day when the shoes finally came, because neither she nor I wanted to get those socks dirty.  The sun was shining that day (June 2nd by then), but the air was full of smoke from wildfires in Canada.
Here's a closeup of the toes, where two Jigglypuffs live.  These shoes make Yuka's feet look a bit on the big side, but then so do her other shoes.
I love this doll!  She's got legs for days, but then I kinda do too.  I've got long legs AND decent-sized feet, LOL.
On June 3rd a new hat arrived from England, and Yuka insisted on showing it off.  Etsy shop is SmartDollBoutiqueUK, and the proprietor is super-nice.
As the Fourth of July drew near Yuka became a watermelon girl.  Etsy shop is TheDollClothier, and Mama loved it when she saw it.  She begged me to take a picture for Failbook, so I did.
Lordy, how eighties can a set of colors get???  This set reminds me of some of the items that Barbie and her friends wore back in the day.  It was the perfect little set for hot July weather though, and Yuka had no difficulties moving in it.  The shorts even have pockets.  FUNCTIONING pockets.  I love it when such a small garment has a detail like that.

July 20th, a transitional period at Casa Pizarro, where Mama and I were doing a lot of cleaning and reorganizing, and I was (finally) starting to move my pets in.  Yuka looked the way I felt right then:  tired, overwhelmed, a little sad.
Last summer wasn't too much fun, with my hip and my ankle both being contrary.  I got over my doldrums in time (and thus Yuka did too), but last summer is not one I'll be remembering with a smile, not like Barbie Summer.  That was a very special time, Barbie Summer.

August 19th, school started for the suckers in Malden, and mother of God, was it hot that day!  High temperatures got to 98 degrees Fahrenheit WITHOUT the heat index helping!
Yuka didn't have to go to school, but she's still got her backpack.  Etsy shop is imogensrabbithole.  Notice that Yuka's backpack is a teddy bear, but he's got a horn on his head.
So cute!  Reminds me of some Wishels and some of the smaller Bobobie dolls as well.  My Wozzeck's headcap is plain, but some of his brethren had tiny horns on their foreheads.  By the way, the picture above made me realize what a pretty profile Yuka has.
As fall approached I did what I always do for my dolls and myself.  The longer sleeves and the heavier fabrics come out, the layers start building up, and the colors segue from blue, green, and pastels into brown, purple, orange, and red, like here.  The cap and scarf are more finds from SakuraxMushiSHOP, and Yuka paired them with a knit T-shirt from dollsofmine, and her SugarShambles jeans.
One of my Failbook friends called Yuka "elegant yet mysterious."  Yuka herself says that red is eye-catching, and if people are going to stare at her scars she may as well wear something else worth looking at.  I like that 'tude.  The hat can be worn beret-style or slouchy, by the way.
On September 27th I FINALLY got Yuka's clothes and accessories crated into one safe unit.  NGL, there's approximately three hundred bucks worth of stuff in there, so keeping it dry and safe from mold, moths, and spiders is a must.  Yuka calls it her "crate o'stuff."
That same weekend I realized that Yuka had the asymmetry that Danny Choo talked about.  I'd sent this image to Mama to show her Yuka's eyes,, and I saw that her eyebrows are slightly uneven.  Kinda like the eyebrows on Miss Revlon dolls, LOL!
It's very subtle, but it's there.  No biggie; handcrafted items are gonna have imperfections like that.  Mr. Choo even talks about it a lot on the Smart Doll website.  Since these dolls are handmade they DO have little asymmetries like that, and I thus find myself actively looking for Yuka's quirks, kinda like Miss Emily did with her Zwergnase Junior doll.  It's cool, finding little artifacts of the handcrafting process.

Severe weather came to call on October 18th, so I got my first opportunity to use Yuka's new carrier (I'd had it about a month by then).  It's your standard black carrier for SD-sized dolls, with a pocket inside for smaller items.
In this case I stored Yuka's hands and stand in there.  I also packed an extra outfit in case Yuka's crate o'stuff blew away (it didn't).  The fit was a tight one, so I'm glad Yuka isn't pear-shaped (I was tempted by the pear bodies, but they're more expensive than the classics).

Halloween came.  I didn't get Yuka a costume, but as y'all saw above I did get her a shirt.  This bad boy came from SakaraxMushiSHOP...again, LOL.  The leggings came from doll buddy Talolili.
"Boo!"

The headband came from dollsofmine.  I thought the image I used for their review was too cute to waste.
At some point in October (my birthday, to be exact) Yuka received this very unique handbag in the mail.  It came from LookDollsHandMade, who offers epic little purses for Smart Dolls.  I don't know of many Smart Dolls who have handbags that are a hunk of cheese.
Halloween IS celebrated in Japan, albeit a little differently from how it's celebrated here in the U.S.  Trick-or-treating is apparently not prevalent, so Yuka was intrigued by the ritual of going door-to-door for candy.  Yuka likes candy, and she got quite a haul.  Some of my favorites are in there.
Y'all can't see the Almond Joy or Twix bars, but they're in there.  Twix one of my favorites, and Mama adores Almond Joy.

When it got colder still, Yuka opted for this unusual little number from Kyle Lefort.  Note that despite the dropping temperatures the grass was still green.
Confession:  I liked scarves on dolls (and myself) before I could tell Tom Baker from a Tom Collins.  Scarves fit any body type, and I think they look dramatic.
Many of my dolls' scarves are knitted or crocheted, but this scarf is woven, presumably on one of those looms one could once find at Wal-Mart.  It's a visually striking scarf, but it doesn't drape well, not like this one.
Yuka can wear this over her head if she wants, just as I did during snowfall back in college.  I called it "babushka mode."
I freaking love these soft ones.  They came from EliteDollWorld and are the softest things you could imagine.  I wish they came in my size.

The end of that particular week (November 8th) brought the season's first truly sharp cold snap, but Yuka was ready.
The jacket is another Etsy find, from EliteDollWorld.  It quickly earned Mama's stamp of approval.  By the time November 12th came it was warm enuff for Yuka to shed her jacket, and by 11/14 she was out of sleeves completely.
I did have several cardigans on hand for Yuka in case she did get chilly, but the air temperature right then was seventy-six degrees Fahrenheit.  The week after that it poured but stayed relatively mild.  That's how autumn rolls in the Bootheel, and indeed in much of the Midwest.  One can have anything from ice storms to tornadoes in November.  It's very much like a second spring, though usually the shifts are not as extreme...usually.

Christmas rolled around, and Yuka quickly made friends with our new-to-us Christmas "tree."  My mama loves gnomes.
Yuka's shirt reminds me of the ones for humans that read "Dear Santa, I CAN EXPLAIN!!!"  That one came from DollLuvrsDesign.
Truth be told, Yuka was actually a very good girl this year, except for her escapade with the refrigerator in May.  She teases and has a sarcastic side, but her behavior during 2025 was excellent.

December 5th.  Once Thanksgiving is over Uncle Man-Child starts playing Christmas music and nothing BUT Christmas music.  The rest of us were pretty sick of it.
That was also the night that my sister had to go to the hospital, so Mama and I were pretty short on patience.  The music didn't help much.

December 14th.  It was bitterly cold outside, prompting Yuka to don her jacket again.
Last December was one big roller coaster weatherwise.  The kinda weather that makes you good and sick.  And sure enuff...we jump to January 2nd, the back-to-normal thing.  Yuka caught a cold and took it easy for a few days.  She had a bad cough and I worried about her developing pneumonia with those little lungs, but Yuka reassured me that she just needed rest and a good book to feel better.
It's not easy to balance everything when you're holding your place in a book and blowing your nose at the same time, but Yuka pulled it off.  Even though she felt less than stellar, she did want to show off her pajamas.
"Yeah, dig these!"

Dominantly red, of course, just like she likes.  dollsofmine is the proprietor.  The blanket, also largely red, came from goodlifedoll.
"<big sniffle>  Can I lie down now?  I'm having chills."

Poor love, a nap did us both a world of good that day (my hip was killing me, as it often does).

Yuka was better by the end of that week, but then it got super-cold outside and I got sick myself, so it was January 25th before I even thought of piddling with Yuka again.  Here she and Joyita Emilia cuddle.
The next day I was still sick and sneezing, but I'd gotten up the chutzpah to take Yuka outside.  It was sixteen degrees and calm.
Mama gave this piecemealed outfit her stamp of approval.  There are multiple pieces from multiple shops, and I thought it was kinda a mess, but...well, Mother knows best.  I left Yuka in that getup until early March.

April rolled around again, and it turns out that Yuka loves Easter almost as much as I do.  She slipped into a cute little beige blouse and a pair of slacks with CHICKS!!!  Oh, and a matching hat.
Casual, comfy, quirky.  Just like she and I like.  Mama gave this outfit her stamp of approval.  Again, these items are Etsy; the hat came from MinibooksbyDany, the blouse came from MysteriousDollWorld, and unfortunately I couldn't find the slacks on my Etsy purchase history.  Etsy black holes aside, I love how Yuka looks in this hat, so I took a couple'a random head shots.  The lights are from the elementary school, by the way; Casa Pizarro is right across the street.
I love the G07 head, by the way, because it's a versatile head that can take a number of expressions.  Yuka/Survivor has a hint of a smile, Forgive But Don't Forget has a smirk, and Ends of the Earth looks like she's about to shiv someone.  G03, while also attractive, is always smiling, rendering that head less versatile.

April 9th, another one of those nice sit-and-do-nothing evenings.
Yes, that's a box of her fellow dolls she's sitting on, with Velvet's head sticking out, no less.  That box is currently full of other things waiting for a post, but that night I just wanted to relax and enjoy a relatively pain-free evening.  My hip behaved for a good part of that week.

April was unusually dry and warm, at times unpleasantly so.  April 26th was our last pretty day before a BIG shift in the weather, and Yuka took advantage of it.
Yes, she carries that purse with every outfit, LOL.  And twice over the next week I carried Yuka to work with me, LOL again!  The storms were noisy and I was frightened on April 27th, but once again Malden was spared the worst of it.  And that's where things currently stand!  Yuka is still in that particular outfit, maybe even something heavier if it stays unseasonably cool.  Today it's supposed to get rough again, but guess who's ready?
Don't be scared, be prepared!

Regarding personality, Yuka is quiet but friendly, fearless, and wicked observant, and when provoked she unleashes biting sarcasm.  She is of Estonian and Japanese decent and is thus fluent in those languages (as well as English).  Her birthday is January 16th, making her a Capricorn on the zodiac scale and coincidentally making her birthstone red.  I mentioned above that her favorite color is red, so that works out nicely.  Yuka is a little bit of an oddball, believing in such things as UFOs and some cryptids.  The mothman is her favorite cryptid, Merida is her favorite Disney princess, Jigglypuff is her favorite Pokémon, Sailor Saturn is her favorite sailor senshi, and she identifies as a Gryffindor.  Like many of my dolls, she likes Sanrio characters (she chose to be unoriginal and named Hello Kitty as her favorite), and Skittles are her favorite candy.  She is a practicing Messianic Jew, and she likes lolita fashion (wa lolita is her favorite subcategory).
Of course I projected bits of myself onto Yuka, as I inevitably will do.  She hate-hate-HATES heights and likes spiders but gives them a cautionary side-eye, just like I do.  She wears big hair bows whenever she gets the chance, just like I do.  She's not an art expert, but she likes it just as I do.  Very predictably, Electric Light Orchestra is her favorite band (I freaking love ELO).  And of course, Yuka is a Whovian; she likes the Third Doctor the best.
Venusian akido, anyone?

I'll pass, thanks.  The Happy Bunny shirt is a nod to my sister's youth rather than mine, by the way, as she liked Happy Bunny when we were kids.  I did too, but Sister had the stickers on her notebooks and sometimes threw the insults at bullies, LOL.

And that, ladies and germs, is a year in the life of my Smart Doll.  She is now the most expensive doll I've ever bought, and I don't plan on going any higher unless I see something truly rare or unique (Printemps).  Nor do I plan on adding any other Smart Dolls to my collection unless I can find a good sale on a secondhand girl with green vinyl.  Yuka is a large doll and manipulating her joints takes some getting used to, so one Smart Doll is enuff for me.  But this was money was well-spent, as I've loved spending time with Yuka, finding her nuances and abilities and limitations, and just having something truly unique.  Oh sure, burn-scar dolls exist, but they're usually custom jobs, and as Mr. Choo predicted, I don't often see other Smart Doll fans rocking a Survivor around.  That's a shame, because she's a very pretty doll, scars or no.  I certainly have no regrets with Yuka, though I do encourage anyone who is considering a Smart Doll to follow their own heart.  If you want to spend a lot on a scarred doll, Mr. Choo has that, and if you want a doll without scars he's got that too.  There truly is something for everyone.

As for Yuka, hopefully this is just the first of many great years together.

All of my love,
RagingMoon1987

So random, March/April '26

We begin this round on the evening of February 28th.  It was warm, I'd spent some time redressing some of my dolls, and these two had spring fever.  Rebecca Madeleine is on the left, and her friend is the one and only Joyita Emilia.
As fine as the weather was that day, we ALL had spring fever!  I'd just gotten both girls in their spring dresses (seen here and here), and they looked cute together.

March 4th, the first severe day of the season.  I took Lady to work with me, but ultimately nothing happened.
Early March was a time for baby dolls here at Casa Pizarro.  From left to right, these are Lady, a Belly Button Baby that I've chosen to name "Colin," and a Magic Nursery baby that I'm calling "Elias."
Belly Button Baby is one that I saw on Tam's blog.  There were several variants, with one being this little red-haired, brown-eyed boy.  Belly Button Baby is like those collapsing toys (my sister loved them), where you'd push a button and they'd go limp.  Same sort of gimmick with Colin, though I can't show it very well.

Colin is strung pretty tightly so he can't sit, but he can lounge.  He's a ham!
As for Elias, he's got an eye color that I've not seen on a Magic Nursery doll.  They're...hazel or green or a combination of the two.  They look green in the pictures.
I make a big deal about this because Afro-American Cabbage Patch Kids of the early nineties had ZERO variation in eye color.  Their eyes were brown and that was that.  Magic Nursery dolls of color DO have variations in eye color, as Elias and Miss Emily's Shyla show.  Oh, and remember how these dolls have plastic bellybuttons that can vary in shape?  Elias has an outie (remember that all Cabbies have outies too).  So far, Lina is my only Magic Nursery doll with an innie.

March 6th, 8:15 p.m. local time.  All was quiet in the Bootheel, but tornadoes were hitting far to the west and I was keeping a sharp eye on the radar.  March of '26 was moderately stormy, but not as bad as March of '25 was.  Anyway, one of my new dolls offered to keep an eye on two of my smallest dolls.
Like Olivia Hope before her, Audrina is proving to be a natural with babies.  Or she is with Hong Kong Honey and Libra Baby.  Audrina is a Juku Couture doll, by the way, and I do plan on reviewing her soon.  With her joints and inset eyes she's kinda like a tiny LIV doll without wigged hair.  I wonder if her shoes are bigger on the inside, LOL!

March 12.  It's been awhile since I talked about Magic Mixie Pixlings, and the scuttlebutt on Reddit is that Moose Toys has pulled the plug on these.  No time like the present to snap one up...or two.
By pure dumb luck I found both Amber (left) and Catlyn being sold together, unencumbered by those clunky bottles.  The consensus on Reddit is that these dolls could've been a hit without all the gimmicks (just like their cousins the Capsule Chix) and I think that indeed is true.  The bottle is a single-trick pony and takes up a lot of space, and there's a danger of it leaking chemicals everywhere (bleach-water, probably, but still).  The dolls themselves are great!  Oh, and as a bonus, the seller shipped my dolls in a Chewy box.  Mama and I are big Chewy fans.  If y'all have animals and don't want to run to Wal-Mart for everything, Chewy.com's shipping is very prompt and the prices are reasonable.

March 12th was also the night I put my last Monster High post together, and I got an outtake.
Budget dolls or no, Frankie and Draculaura know how to look adorable.

March 13th.  We were facing another stormy weekend and I was nervous, so I grabbed two of my soft dolls to hug.  My Newborn Nancy and Lady are who I grabbed.
Still no batteries for My Newborn Nancy yet.  I remember I'd said that I wanted to try her out.

March 17th.  Rockin' redheads.  From left, Joyita Emilia, Hannah Valerie, and Rosanna Claire.
Hannie loves the camera, LOL!

March 22nd.  I was dying to see how Joyita Emilia looked in blue.
She ended up looking not too shabby!

March 27th.  It was chilly and windy again, not twenty-four hours after parts of the Midwest had tornadoes and hail.  I promptly bundled up my newest arrival.
Her name is Baby Annabell, and she's by Zapf Creation.  She'll be getting a review in...<pauses to look>...late May, if all goes well.

March 29th.  By the end of the day it was warm enuff for a change of clothes.
Annabell is a big girl, so finding clothes for her may not be the easiest.  But so far I've lucked out.  And yes, it seriously warmed up that fast.  That's life in the Missouri Bootheel.

April 2nd.  In preparation for Annabell's post I had out My Newborn Nancy and Baby All Gone, or as I call them, Nancy and Mary.
Nancy is a Tyco doll, Mary is a Kenner doll, and they don't look a lot alike, but I'd have happily called them sisters as a kid.  Sisters by different companies, one could say.

April 15th.  Taxes were safely in, my hip was semi-behaving, and a lovely breeze was coming through the storm door's window.  I belong to a Failbook group that goes pretty heavy on the reborn dolls, so I trotted out my iCradle doll, Sandra.
I'd just gotten a new pacifier clip for Sandra, since her magnet doesn't hold her pacifier tightly.  The cord is stiff, but it keeps the binky from falling in the floor, which it did at least twice when I'd move Sandra around.

The next evening I swapped Sandra out for Geneva, my Real Baby.  Mama has named Geneva as a favorite of hers, and I've been pretty open about my fondness for her too.
I really feel my physical limitations when handling Geneva.  She's a big baby and I have to hold onto Barbie Walker with both hands, so I have to drape Geneva awkwardly across Barbie Walker's crosspiece...or ask for help, which I loathe.  Mama is also on a walker and can't carry much more than I can, and I want Uncle Man-Child to keep his lousy mitts off my stuff (don't worry, I leave his crap alone too).  Anyway, springtime and that cute duck dress just beg for a picture of Geneva outside in the sunshine, and without a good carrier I just can't do it.  But then again, there was no sunshine that evening, just rain and some thunder.  The week of the twelfth was very violent in parts of the country, but this time the Bootheel made it out okay.

April 20th, bright, sunny, and breezy.  The Dolly Den (Failbook group) asked for curly hair, and I obliged.
River Song (left) and Alana.  Alana desperately needs a hair bow.

That same day my Zapf Creation Little Princess doll arrived, after quite a journey from abroad.
Cinderella's whole mouth is askew, not just her paint!  I can live with that though, since these dolls are out of production and aren't the easiest to find.

April 24th.  I'd received a steroid shot and was feeling good enuff to drag some of the kids outside.
From left, Martina (Furga), Cassandra (Italocremona), and Ilaria (Furga).

Twice this past week I've been afraid that I'd go flying over the rainbow, but it all came out okay in the end.  Unfortunately I've got a feeling that this summer is going to be long, hot, and dry.  I hope all is well with y'all!

Cheers,

Decisions, decisions

C'mon, if y'all saw the forecast then you probably knew I'd post tonight.  The weather is once again very bad, and Ryan Hall says the Missouri storms are in the best environment for tornadoes.  Here's what the radar looks like, without warnings and with.
Under normal circumstances the southernmost storm would be what's bothering me, but these storms have some southern motion in them, and that storm is dipping into Arkansas.  No, the one near Poplar Bluff is the one I'm giving the side eye.  If it keeps hooking south then it'll hit us.

As always, I spent a fair amount of time deciding who to grab, since I've got plenty of nice dolls.  Some are gifts, some are one of a kind, and some I just love.  In the end I've chosen to pack light tonight, just The Doll Who Shall Not Be Named and Rita Cheryl.
I may pick someone else at random if I need to run for it.  Mia is small enuff...no, Rita Cheryl says she'll go Talky Tina on me if I don't bring Ginger.
I understand, Rita Cheryl.  I'm worried about my cats; they panic if they're caged, and I simply can't chase down six cats in the six-to-ten minutes of lead time that a tornado might give.  My dogs, on the other hand...they have a nice cage.

As to my friends in Ohio, y'all keep a sharp lookout as y'all might get hit by a squall line.  Squall lines produce nasty straight winds and can do some serious damage.   Love y'all!

Stormy love,

Champagne taste, Pepsi budget

Mama would say "beer budget," but I'll take a good cold Pepsi over beer any day.  The wrong beer gives me a wheel-buster of a headache and then makes me throw up.  Anyway, I belong to a Failbook group that goes heavy on the reborn dolls and other large, somewhat-realistic child dolls, and...well, they're pretty!  Since I'm a "monkey see, monkey do" type of collector I look for a doll like theirs, more to get an idea about pricing than anything, and that's where I ran into a pattern.  Recently all of the dolls I've taken a shine to are worth at least two hundred bucks, and usually more than that.  We start on April 12th, give or take.  One of the women in the group is all excited about a new Ping Lau-sculpted reborn she's getting, and since I like Ping Lau's work I went browsing for a reborn.  I found one similar to this one...
...and because she's a reborn, she's freaking EXPENSIVE!!!  The one above is Smitten Kitten, by the way, and she was kinda high, but nowhere near as high as the reborns on eBay.  Indeed, I could afford Kitten if I wanted her, but while I like her I don't really want her.  Paradise Gallaries says she's sold out, but oh, Paradise Galleries has lots of cute Ping Lau dolls.  They're just not quite what I'm looking for.  The one I really fell for is this one, and she's three hundred fifty bucks.  No biggie, I have some nice Ping Lau dolls (here and here), but I still love to look.

Then (I forget what day, exactly) I decided to browse eBay for A Girl For All Time, since I'm not giving up hope on owning one of those.  Remember that the company shuttered itself, sad face, and at the time of my last AGFAT post eBay had nothing.  It was kinda disorienting, like the Marchmont family had just fallen off a cliff into dolly oblivion, like the Extra Special Dolls did.  This past week I was a hair more successful, finding both Clementine (left) and her daughter, Sam.  Bex, my favorite of them all, remains nowhere in sight.
BUT...butbutbut, Sam is going for two-thirty and some change and Clementine is even more pricey.  Of the two of them I prefer Sam since she's from the mod era, but two-thirty and some change is kinda steep.

Alrighty, so Sam's out of the question for now.  Next doll I saw was a Kidz 'n' Cats doll, I forget which one, but I've been giving those an admiring eye ever since Miss Emily had Henriette on her blog.  Now Henriette's saga was something of a hot mess, but boy, did I love her face!  I like the Kidz' joints too, since not many dolls their size have legit joints, just hollow limbs with an armature inside.  Jana (left) and Julika are my favorites, for obvious reasons.
Guess what?  These kids are out of my range too.  Like the Ping Lau bunch, I have two Gotz dolls and they're nice dolls, but they're not as poseable as the Kidz 'n' Cats are.  Oh, affordable Kidz 'n' Cats can be found on eBay, but a lot of 'em are missing some or all of their clothes, and they're STILL expensive!  Part of the allure to these dolls is their eclectic outfits, and I don't want mine to be missing anything.  So part of that failure is on me being picky.

Back to the Failbook group we go now, and to Masterpiece Dolls.  I like these because they've got such charismatic faces and because a lot of 'em are vinyl.  They also have nice arm and knee joints, though I think their hip joints may leave a lot to be desired.  This one is my favorite.
Not only are prices for these dolls out of sight, but they're large and heavy, and Miss Emily's doll showed some troubling signs of aging (plus those ridiculous hip joints).  Still, I love these dolls' faces!

If we were playing baseball then I'd have already struck out long ago, but Sekiguchi's Printemps popped up again and I remembered how unusual they are.  For a refresher, this is a Printemps doll; I last discussed these last June, complete with her two friends behind her.
Those eyes.  They're black until the light hits them just right, and then they glow a ghostly blue.  Freaky, unique, and I love it.  Unfortunately for me these are...I think these kids may be the priciest ones on the list today.

I could also discuss Zwergnase and Annette Himstedt dolls, but we'd be here all day (I freaking love those).  Now I admit that I did spend my tax return on a very expensive doll last spring, The Doll That Shall Not Be Named, who will make her debut on May 5th.  Why?  Because I wasn't facing two surgeries last spring, and because Special Dolly was on a bit of a sale, and because my desire for her wasn't some fleeting fancy like a lot of these above are.  Indeed, the only doll on today's list that I see in my dreams is the Printemps doll, due to her unique eyes and otherwise mild face.  Patience is a virtue, a virtue that I don't have.  Patience is for wimps!  But how 'bout y'all?  Do any of y'all have expensive tastes and a grocery budget?  Discuss.

Love,

Den of Angels

Not weeping angels, thank God.  No, the ball-jointed doll hobby is abuzz with the news that Den of Angels is closing.  This is kinda a big deal since Den of Angels is where a lot of folks in the hobby organize meetups, buy and sell, show off their dolls, and talk.  No, the site isn't going away completely; the archives and the databases apparently will still be up for reference, but no posting will be allowed after this August.  Now...while the admins claim the site will still be left up, I want a way to back up my dolls' biographies since they took a significant amount of time to plan out and I don't want to forget anything.  Good thing I've got the blog, right?  I admit that I've cut and pasted the dolls' bios straight from Den of Angels, since it was a lot to type out the first time.  I'll start with my oldest doll, the one I love the most.  Fair warning, his taste in music is predictable if you know me, LOL.

JOHNNY HAILEY
COMPANY:  Angel of Dream
SCULPT NAME:  Tao Hua Dao
DATE OF ACQUISITION:  March 12th, 2016
EYE SIZE:  16mm
WIG SIZE:  6-8 (I think his current wig is a size 7 with a silicone cap)

CHARACTER INFO:  John Alec Hailey is the lead character of the storyline. He was born in London, England in 1963. He grew up in a poor but close family with both parents and his sisters Anne and Libby. He excelled in school but mostly kept to himself due to bullying and an undiagnosed social anxiety disorder. In the middle of 1979 his parents died, and shortly thereafter Johnny and his sisters found themselves in a futuristic Martian town (Armenia City), without reason or explanation. Beings who deliberately fly to Mars are referred to by natives simply as immigrants, while beings who are summoned there by the Martians are referred to as "Transplants." Johnny, Libby, and Anne are Transplants, though their Martian friends have not revealed their reasoning for transplanting them.

Regardless of the Martians' reasoning, the change has been very, VERY hard for Johnny. He is kind and loyal, but do to his SAD he's very shy and quiet. Making new friends and settling into a new school have been challenging for him. Things are not helped by the fact that his new hometown is inhabited by elves, leprechauns, and more than a few Martians, one of which he read about in The Martian Chronicles (Ylla). As the only living male in the family, he has also taken it upon himself to be the breadwinner, and that's not easy either since he has to clothe, house, and feed himself and two other people. Despite all this, Johnny is slowly learning to relax around people and overcome the hurdles that have been dropped in his path. The local doctor got him properly diagnosed, and he's now getting the help he needs for his illness. He has succeeded in making a carefully selected group of comrades, and he even has the beginnings of a love life, something he's never had before. Johnny's eye is set on Johanna Skye, though he is completely unaware that she reciprocates his positive feelings. He is devoted to and fiercely protective of Anne and Libby, and he isn't particularly fond of Libby's boyfriend Niki.

If you take out the time travel factor and the mental illness Johnny is still a little on the eccentric side. He is a staunch conservative, a devout Lutheran, and an avid reader. H. G. Wells, Ray Bradbury, Hans Christian Anderson, and J. K. Rowling are his favorite authors. He passionately hates winter and loves springtime; in fact, his dislike of winter is so strong that I sometimes wonder if he's not got seasonal affective disorder as well! Johnny loves music; his favorite artists are Sir Elton John, the Hollies, the Moody Blues, and Electric Light Orchestra. His fondness for Elton John led him to take up the piano and singing, and he's quite good at both, though he's still working on overcoming stage fright. Ylla, who is a music lover, is helping him overcome that last bit. Johnny is also quite interested in girls, though he's still learning how to act around them without tripping over his words. He's a bit of a candy-gobbler, his favorites being HiChew, flying saucers, Licorice Allsorts and Skittles. He collects stuffed animals, which he treats like we treat our ball-jointed dolls. His grail is a Steiff bear, and if I can find one small enough, I plan on making that happen for my Johnny.

ALISTAIR ADALWOLF

COMPANY:  Dream of Doll
SCULPT NAME:  Elf Kirill
DATE OF ACQUISITION:  June 13th, 2016
EYE SIZE:  16mm
WIG SIZE:  7-8

CHARACTER INFO:  I love Johnny and always have, but he's kinda set in his looks.  I wanted a ball-jointed doll that I could "play with," and I fell in love with another Den of Angels user's Kirill, so I hopped on DoA's marketplace and found an affordable one for myself.  Rhidell was their name, so Rhidell, if you're out there, your doll remains alive and well and is in good hands.  Anyway, Alistair Rufus Adalwolf is of German and Welsh decent. He was born into a large family of werewolves who largely kept to themselves in the coal-mining region of south Wales. From this upbringing Alistair learned how to live off the land and how to take care of himself. During Alistair's adolescence rabies swept through his pack. Yeah, rabies. His father and most of his family died of the rabies, but Alistair had to put the remaining few (including his mother) down himself. Heartbroken over this tragedy (and his unwilling involvement in it), Alistair joined the Martian Settler Program and emigrated to Armenia City.

On good days Alistair can be found at school, acting like a normal, everyday seventeen-year-old. On bad days it's not uncommon to find him alone by the river, hunkered down under a tree sobbing. Alistair's despair stems not only from the death of his family, but on the fact that he is a werewolf, a being that is usually doomed to damnation after death. He turns to God on a regular basis for forgiveness and prays constantly that his soul will be spared. He does have his moments though, and when he does he's inconsolable.

In spite of his inexperience around humans, Alistair has a wide circle of friends and has managed to earn Johnny Hailey's trust. He hides his sorrow behind machismo and is seen by his classmates as an average student and a flirtatious clown who loves to laugh and joke. Sometimes he takes his jokes too far and ends up in detention, but for the most part he's well-behaved. Of course, full and new moons make his inner wolf come to the surface. As a result, Alistair has to take medicine every day to keep his transformation in check. He uses an injectable concoction of wolf's bane and some other things that he hasn't revealed to me yet. He uses this like diabetic humans use insulin, and when people ask him what he's up to, that's how he explains it. Only his closest friends know his secret, and none of them have figured out why the wolf's bane does not kill him outright. Even Guinevere, who mixes the medicine, is at a loss over that one.

Outwardly Alistair resembles your average seventeen-year-old, and that's how he wants it to stay. He likes barbecued ribs, Mexican food, and root beer, and if he had his way he'd eat nothing but those three things. His favorite colors are red, red, red, more red, black, and oddly, pink. "What's pink but a lighter shade of red?" he always says. Alistair likes flowers, particularly wolf's bane (what a surprise), daffodils, and painted tongue. He's interested in girls and enjoys a healthy platonic relationship with most of my girl dolls. His one exception is the orange mushroom-eater, Ju-hwang. Alistair and Ju-hwang have been casually dating for awhile, and he plans on asking her to go steady soon. Though his grades are only so-so, Alistair does enjoy a good book; his favorite authors are L. Frank Baum and C.S. Lewis. He enjoys the company of his friends and is fond of vintage arcade games, though the two don't always mix. Alistair has discovered that Ylla also loves arcade games...and much to his chagrin, she's unbeatable at Alistair's favorite game, Pac-Man.

GUINEVERE SKYE

COMPANY:  FairyLand
SCULPT NAME:  Juri 2013
DATE OF ACQUISITION:  Head A on September 13th, 2016, Head B on September 23rd, 2016.  She does not have a body yet.
EYE SIZE:  14mm
WIG SIZE:  7-8

CHARACTER INFO:  Guinevere Hollia Skye is an elf. She spent her life with her family, a seemingly close-knit but strict group of elves that harbored a mild distrust towards humans and the outside world. During her early years Guinevere developed two personalities, one for daytime (which she spent at home) and one for nighttime (which she spent on trap lines in the woods). This personality trait led to tensions between Johanna and her family, which wasn't as stable as she thought. Her overly-curious mother stepped out on her father multiple times, and one of these affairs resulted in Guinevere. Guinevere sought out her birth father who proved to be a member of a rival elf clan, and when the Skyes found out they disowned her. Guinevere subsequently joined the Martian Settler Program and travelled to Armenia City. She regrets nothing; she knew that the Skye clan was already planning to throw her out due to her split personality.

Guinevere tries to keep her mental illness in check, but there isn't much one can do for a split personality. By day she's demure, shy, and sweet, but by night she's bold, adventurous, and a little on the sarcastic side. Guinevere doesn't know why her family resented her for this split, but she does realize that it's confusing for her friends. She is thus trying to merge the two sides of herself into one happy medium. She's succeeded a little; both sides are brave and fiercely loyal, though Guinevere insists that both sides were always that way. Ylla begs to differ, saying that Guinevere's day personality was timid, while her night personality was two-faced and prone to volatile mood swings.

Guinevere's split personality makes her a bit unpredictable, but she is not a danger to herself or to others. She has managed to find a close friend in her Martian housemate Ylla K. Ylla is able to read minds and can thus predict what Guinevere is going to do. She has managed to deduce that Guinevere's personality shifts are prompted with the rising and setting of the sun, and less dramatically, with the changing of the seasons. This has done nothing to stop Guinevere's shifts, but she is better able to prepare for them. Ylla and Guinevere have slowly become inseparable, though they are quite different. While Ylla is calm and rational, Guinevere is easily excited and a hopeless romantic. Guinevere is also close to Chloe, who accompanies her on her foraging outings.

Since she is unofficially the town apothecary Guinevere doesn't have much time for a personal life. When out of school she spends her days gathering herbs and mixing her medicines. Her evenings are spent hunting for meat. She is particularly skilled at mixing the wolf's bane concoction that Alistair uses to control his lycanthropism. In fact, she is so good at this that Alistair doesn't trust anyone else to mix and fill his prescription. In spite of these time-consuming tasks Guinevere does enjoy a few hobbies. She particularly loves collecting blind-bag figurines. I've managed to put together quite a collection for her, too!

As I insinuated above, Guinevere has a fairly wide circle of friends, though her split personality makes her a little nervous around newcomers. To an outsider she seems quiet, but she's just trying to figure out whom she can trust. She gets along well with her roommates and with her schoolmates, and enjoys a close platonic relationship with Alistair Adalwolf. Her love interest is shy, naive Johnny Hailey, who is completely clueless to the situation. This drives Guinevere nuts, but she isn't sure how to resolve the situation. She doesn't know whether to leave Johnny be or to try and pursue her heart's desire. Both paths could potentially break hearts and end in disaster, but both could also end happily. Poor Guinevere is very conflicted, and her situation is worsened by both her split personality and the dissenting opinions of Chloe and Ylla, both of whom she respects. Chloe is convinced that Guinevere and Johnny would be perfect for each other, while Ylla insists that Guinevere will be happier pursuing another boy. Guinevere has told me that she feels like a leaf caught in a storm, being pushed and pulled violently in all directions. Despite all this turmoil, Guinevere remains cheerful and optimistic, confident that one day her puzzling life will fall into place.

CHLOE FAULKNER
COMPANY:  Bobobie
SCULPT NAME:  March
DATE OF ACQUISITION:  October 12th, 2016
EYE SIZE:  14mm
WIG SIZE:  5-6

CHARACTER INFO:  Chloe Ashling Faulkner is a leprechaun. Her past is ambiguous since she keeps much of it a secret; she has not revealed to me her age or her nationality, though her accent and name give away the latter as Irish. She lives in the same Martian town as my other characters, and even they don't have a clue how or when she got there.

Regardless of her mysterious past, Chloe is a welcome denizen of the town. She resides in a house with Ju-hwang, Ylla, and Guinevere. She is energetic and cheerful, much to the delight of her friends. She's also extremely mischievous, often joining Alistair in his practical jokes. She apparently is quite intelligent, as she does not attend the local school. This has proven to be something of a problem since most of Chloe's roommates are teenagers and have to spend most of the week at school. Chloe spends her free time weaving, cultivating apples and dandelions (not easy in Martian soil), cooking, and accompanying Guinevere on her hunting forays. While Guinevere hunts for meat, Chloe puts her knowledge of mushrooms to use. While Ju-hwang can eat any mushroom she chooses without ill effect, the other girls cannot. Thus Chloe has to know which mushrooms are safe for all of her roommates and which are only suitable for Ju-hwang's midnight snacks. On her downtime Chloe provides a listening ear to Alistair, who sometimes needs to shed tears or vent anger, and to Johanna, who suffers from a nasty case of love-sickness. She is my little Wishel Wozzeck's cousin, though neither Chloe nor Wozzeck has revealed to me how a leprechaun and a tiny humanoid can be related. The two stick to that story though, and they're close.

Chloe's age is ambiguous and her intellect suggests maturity, but her hobbies are very girly. She loves My Little Pony, Care Bears, flowers, and the color pink. Her small size means that she mostly wears childish styles, though like most of my characters anything is fair game. Being a leprechaun, she also loves gold and anything gold-colored. She is a hopeless romantic and would love nothing more than to see Guinevere and Johnny get together. This often puts Chloe at odds with Ylla, who wants Guinevere to think a little more rationally.

WOZZECK WINTERGATTAN
COMPANY:  Wishel
SCULPT NAME:  Unbeknown...I guess
DATE OF ACQUISITION:  November 15th, 2018
EYE SIZE:  N/A
WIG SIZE:  4-5

CHARACTER INFO:
Wozzeck Alban Wintergatan has yet to reveal his full personality to me. I do know that he's a cheerful, relaxed little chap who loves to smile and put his new friends at ease, and I know that he loves his naptime. He also likes to play, but more often than not Wozzeck can be found zonked out in his favorite egg chair. He insists that my leprechaun Chloe is a distant relative of his. I've yet to figure out how a leprechaun and a tiny little humanoid can be related, but Chloe backs up Wozzeck's claims and the two have formed a bond. When Wozzeck is not sleeping he likes to play with his best friend Tatsumaki (unshelled at this time), though the two are complete opposites in terms of personality. Wozzeck, as I said, is a laid-back sort, while Tatsumaki (being a Pongpong) has boundless energy. Despite their differences Wozzeck and Tatsumaki are close, with Tatsumaki looking up to Wozzeck as a big brother figure.

And eight years later, Wozzeck still doesn't have much of a personality!  Tatsumaki, if I can ever shell her, WILL have a huge personality, as she's a FairyLand PongPong, and...well, this is what a good PongPong looks like.
I freaking love PongPong.  Unfortunately obtaining a PongPong is gonna be...well, it's gonna be a little harder to obtain one, since Den of Angels has a nice marketplace where one can buy, sell, trade dolls and doll supplies.  That was how I got Alistair, and Wozzeck, and Guinevere's heads.  Buying on eBay is risky since eBay is FULL of recasts, but when/if Den of Angels closes my only options are eBay or straight from the company.  That's still possible with some of my dolls' holding companies, of course!  Bobobie, FairyLand, and Angel of Dream are all alive and well, but Wishel and Dream of Doll are not, so Wozzeck and Alistair are all but irreplaceable.  Now is Den of Angels perfect?  No, no forum is, but DoA is (was) still a lovely way for ball-jointed doll fans to connect.  Looks like now we're stuck with Failbook unless something strange happens.

Good thing for blogs, right???  I had been wanting to put my ball-jointed dolls in the blog more, but I can't carry Alistair and Johnny anywhere without the danger of dropping them, so they'll have to wait until I can move without a walker...or until I get them a nice carrying bag.  I've done that for The Doll Who Must Not Be Named.

Resin love,
RagingMoon1987
