I regrettably never got a G1 Jinafire Long, partly because I was trying to show a modicum of self control and partly because she was released at the same time as Skelita Calaveras, and now that she's got her G3 doll I'm regretting my oversight even more. This is what she used to look like; being a dragon girl, she's gold, scaly, and with green hair and accents. My favorite ones were these two, Swim Class (left) and Freak du Chic.
Oh yeah, there's also Lagoonafire, the Freaky Fusion girl.
I still think it's a riot that the fire ghoul and the water ghoul ended up stuck together. Water and fire don't really gee haw. Anyway, Jinafire was always a favorite of mine because she was such a bright, eye catching color. Most of the other Monster High students were neutrals or pastels, and here was Jinafire all gold and green and shiny. She's still a favorite of mine...in aesthetics, anyway. In personality no one could beat Lagoona Blue.
Alrighty, so that's all well and good. Now let's look at G3 Jinafire.
As with Lagoona Blue, Frankie Stein, and Ghoulia Yelps, Jinafire's overall appearance has been effed with. Her lower legs, lower arms, and her tail are gold, but her head is the same pukey blue-green that Frankie Stein used to be. Her hair is streaked with lavender rather than that lovely green, and her meet outfit lacks the Chinese vibe overkill that her G1 meet outfit had. Oh, the new doll is cute, but...sigh, change is hard, innut? I was hoping that IF Jinafire got a rerelease she'd look like her old self, but you know what they say: hope in one hand, crap in the other, see which one fills up first. Maybe when I see the G3 doll IRL I'll like her better, but right now I'm browsing eBay for a G1 Jinafire.
I mentioned Skelita in the beginning of the post. She's near-perfection in my book, so I wonder what G3 can do to ruin her. The wiki says she's "big-boned," meaning that she's probably not a twig like my G1 dolls are. That's positive, at least.
Flaming love,
