Unfortunately, when I took her out of her box her torso came apart and her legs fell off! Kinda like what happened to Miss Dollikin back in December.
I don't know how well y'all can see, but here's what the inside of Tiana's torso looks like.
The legs and the torso were held together with elastic and washers, and to keep the washers in place the leg holes were apparently covered with plastic caps. These caps shattered, and Tiana fell apart. Here's a piece of one of those caps.
What a shame! Tiana has a cute face. Again, a little bug-eyed, but cute. She's got dimples!
I can probably fix this, but it's going to require a heat gun and a pair of hemostat clamps, neither of which I have at the moment. I do wonder, though: have any other Disney Princess and Me dolls had this issue??? Or is my Tiana just unlucky? If y'all have any experience, please let me know. In the meantime Tiana and Dollikin can get to know each other.
Cheers,

Elastic strung joints seem to be problematic by nature. I have a Disney Hercules doll from the 1990s with elastic strung legs and the elastic is completely shot and hanging on by a thread. I bought him used, but I didn't realize just how bad the elastic was until I got him home and started handling him, when I heard that cracking sound that old brittle elastic which has lost its elasticity makes when it is stretched.

Yeah, I can remember the elastic being a problem with early Monster High dolls too. It was so bad that Amazon had nothing but one or two-star reviews.
DeleteHoly cow! Can you return her?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid not. She was new in her box anyway so I doubt the seller knew Tiana was broken.
