Let's talk about Trolls

When I was preschool-aged I loved Trolls. Treasure Trolls, Magic Trolls, Battle Trolls, vintage Wishniks, didn't matter. They were ugly and kinda dumb, yes, but they were harmless and Mama and Daddy didn't protest much. I even had sneakers with Trolls on them. My childhood collection was big enuff to rival my collection of My Little Ponies, and like so many of my toys, I donated them during my teenage years thinking I'd never want them again. Truth be told, I DON'T want my old Trolls back, but I thought it would be nice to start up a small collection again as a tribute to my childhood. For a refresher, here's my three.
The two solid ones are fairly recent makes; their boxes said that they're Good Luck Trolls and commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of...I guess of Trolls' invention.  The fun thing about these Good Luck Trolls is that they're unusually colored all over, rather than being fleshtoned with bright eyes and hair, like my childhood friends were.  This one is grape juice-colored with bright green eyes...
...and this one is yellow with blue hair and pink eyes.
Hasbro was the mastermind behind these, but they look almost exactly like my first few Treasure Trolls, starfish hands and all.

This other one is kinda special because I owned her at one time.  I was four in 1991 when these dolls were released, and I thought her name was "Vila," but some quick research revealed that her name was and is "Vanessa."
I had an "It's bigger on the inside" moment when I pulled Vanessa out of her shipper.  I was expecting her to be about So Surprised Suzie's size, but she's actually a smidge taller.

Usually our childhood dolls and toys end up being smaller than we remember, because when we're young the toys ARE big in proportion to us.  But in this case Vanessa truly is a nice-sized doll.  By the way, these dolls came with headbands, but Vanessa is missing hers.  I can substitute a ribbon or just leave her as is, since Trolls always have crazy hair anyway.  This young lady can suck her thumb!  Y'all know of old how I like thumb suckers.
I remember the commercial saying you could look into your doll's eyes and make a special wish, and while I'm beyond that I do like Vanessa's eyes.
LOL, poor Vanessa, there's something vaguely simian about her face, especially those lips.  Don't get me wrong, I like monkeys, but they're not really critters that one wants their face compared to.  By the way, I wonder...do monkeys have standards of beauty like we do???  They're closely related to us, after all, and some of their behaviors are a lot like ours.  Anyway, Trolls aren't the prettiest things, but Vanessa is surprisingly well-made.  Her vinyl is smooth and heavy, and her limbs rotate nicely.  I may have to review her in the future.

I promised Mama that I wouldn't drag home a ton of these like I've done with the Cabbage Patch Kids, but then I also promised her that I only wanted one or two of those, LOL.  I'm keeping my eyes peeled for truly unique Trolls, particularly something like this goofy monstrosity.
He's got two heads, obviously.  The two-headed Trolls are ridiculously expensive, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled just the same.  The others that I'm sizing up are mostly Trolls I remember loving from childhood.  We'll see how big this collection gets!

Cheers,
