I'm on the fence about Joss!

No, I'm not on the fence about her personality like I was with Isabelle and Z; even though she's yet another athlete I think 2020 Girl of the Year Joss Kendrick is both adorable and interesting.  Joss surfs, but her jerk older brother goads her into trying cheerleading as well, which in itself isn't all that interesting...except that Joss is deaf.  Not stone deaf, mind y'all, as she sports a hearing aid in her right ear, but she's deaf enough that she relies on sign language and lip reading, and she can't hear at all when her hearing aid is out.  According to the wiki she doesn't like it when her friends won't face her when they talk, and she also doesn't like it when people raise their voices to talk to her.  That second bit made me think, as I have several deaf patrons at the library.  Like Joss they can hear well enough to converse with me, but more often than not I find myself raising my voice to speak with them.  Not only has this drawn the ire of one non-hearing-impaired patron, but I also feel like I'm talking down to my friends when I raise my voice.  I'm curious to read Joss's take on this, as she's on the receiving end.  Does she feel patronized when folks holler at her, or does she find it annoying because it doesn't work, or does she just not like it?  OR is it some combination of those three factors?  I'm dying to find out.

Of course I know that I can buy Joss's book and read it, but...yeah, I think y'all may know where I'm going with this.  Talolili has already expressed a desire to buy Joss, but I'm on the fence about whether to buy her or not.  Oh, Joss is cute, no question, but I've already seen some comments about her hair being thin.  Now I can live with that, as I've grown to live with Z's hair.  But I also dragged in three American Girl dolls LAST year!  Z was just one of 'em!  I also acquired Julie and Silver Bird before 2019 was out.
Add Denise, Felicity, Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly to that list for a grand total of eight.  If I add my other dolls in the eighteen-inch range to that list then the number will come out to around twenty.  I've seen girls and women with way more dolls than that, but I can't help thinking for myself...is nine too many?  Would getting Joss be like the dog and his reflection?  I mean, I love the dolls I have.  Dressing them up and taking their pictures is tons of fun, and to say they don't satisfy me would be a lie.  Mama and I have gotten a huge kick out of changing my girls' clothes for the seasons, even though the weather around here hasn't been particularly cold yet.
Xenia and Sadie are probably dressed the most suitably for the air temperature at the moment; it's cool but not COLD.  But yeah, it's pretty obvious from those pictures that my dolls are well-dressed and well-loved, and that I enjoy them.  Can I be happy without Joss?  Of course I can.  But I just...like her.  She's got a cute face, and her clothes are colorful, and I could actually learn something from her (unlike with the last few Girls of the Year,) and SHE HAS A BULLDOG!!!  English bulldogs are derided by some as "ugly" dogs, and I'll admit that they're a little funny-looking, but some little girls happen to like them and I'm glad Joss does!  If I do choose to get Joss then the dog will have to come too...but I don't know yet if I want to get Joss!  If I do, y'all will find out, though I doubt I'll review her.  When/if Talolili's Joss comes I'll ask her if she can do a review, since I hog the blog.  LOL!

Happy New Year,

    1. I live in the Missouri bootheel, that little bit of Missouri that hangs down into Arkansas. We've had one really bad cold snap, and since then daytime temperatures have been averaging about fifty degrees. They're calling for a temperature change later this week, though. I hope Sadie's new coat will come before then.
