Leide's sisters visit the Shriners

Leide, for those of y'all who forgot, is my name for this doll, the one with the prosthesis.  Collectors will probably know her better as Barbie Fashionista #121.
Recently Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts received four hundred of these dolls to pass out to young patients with missing limbs.  The donation was apparently the idea of an 18-year-old girl named Chloe Newman, a girl from New York who was born missing a leg and has been treated at Shriners Hospital ever since.  Chloe's goal is to make other young patients at the hospital feel better about their own prosthetic limbs.  The dolls have apparently been bought and paid for by Chloe and her family, which is a pretty hefty chunk of change.  Here in Missouri the Fashionistas range from six to eight bucks a pop, so multiply that by four hundred and you get anywhere from $2,400 to $3,200, not counting taxes and loose change!  But...it's money well spent.  Any money spent on a good cause is money well spent...unless it's something like Balloonfest, LOL.  The news story regarding these donated Barbie dolls can be found here or here.

I should have my post about Z Yang up sometime this week.  I know some of y'all have been waiting for that.

Much love,
